Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED reveals that it has no plans to bring the game to Xbox Project Scarlett, the next-generation Xbox console. After hearing about Cyberpunk 2077's early 2020 release date, many had assumed that the game would release on Project Scarlett which is launching in holiday 2020.

Speaking to Gaming Bolt at E3 2019, Cyberpunk 2077 quest director Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz said that the developer isn't working on a Project Scarlett version of the game. PC, PS4, and Xbox One are where "we’re putting all our efforts into right now," said the developer, who seemed to dash suggestions that Cyberpunk 2077 could be a Project Scarlett launch title. Tomaszkiewicz also said that the developer isn't planning to bring the game to the Nintendo Switch, after the company confirmed that its fantasy RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to Switch later this year.

CD Projekt RED's decision to only make the game for current-generation consoles for now may be disappointing to those who had hoped that Cyberpunk 2077 would be able to use Project Scarlett's power. The console will be capable of 8K gaming and much higher frame rates, says Microsoft, meaning that Night City could potentially look even more gorgeous on Scarlett. Cyberpunk 2077 won't have loading screens, but Project Scarlett's faster SSD could allow players to get into the game faster from the start.

However, it may not be that surprising to hear that CD Projekt RED only wants to think about those three platforms. At E3 2019, the developer also confirmed that the game won't have multiplayer at launch and that the online multiplayer gameplay isn't being worked on. CD Projekt RED wants to put its resources into making the game's single player content great for release. The suggestion is that trying to get the game on an unreleased platform too may also take resources away from that, which could damage the quality of the story campaign.

Tomaszkiewicz doesn't seem to be ruling out a Cyberpunk 2077 release of Project Scarlett, though, and there's nothing there that suggests the developer will never bring the game to the upcoming platform. There had been rumors that Xbox Project Scarlett will offer cross-generation games for some time as Microsoft completes development of its operating system project. CD Projekt RED may not be thinking about it now, but Cyberpunk 2077 could potentially be one of these cross-generation games.

Cyberpunk 2077 will release on April 16th, 2020 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
