In surprising and wholly unbelievable news, Cyberpunk 2077 was teased to be coming to Xbox Game Pass by an official Xbox account. The tease was near immediately deleted, which heavily implies that it was posted in error. Nevertheless, a leak and an accident often look quite similar prior to an official announcement (or refutation, for that matter). Cyberpunk 2077 is almost certainly not coming to Xbox Game Pass, at least for quite a long time, but maybe Xbox and CD Projekt Red will surprise everyone.

The leak comes from the official Xbox South Africa Twitter (@XboxZA) account. The Twitter account posted a video described as an Xbox Game Pass advertisement, due to it featuring the Game Pass logo at its end. The rest of the video teased a huge line-up of games, Cyberpunk 2077 among them. Cyberpunk 2077 wasn't the only game listed that's rather difficult to believe is coming to Game Pass, however. The list included games including Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Doom Eternal, Borderlands 3, and even Elden Ring.

Yes, if Cyberpunk 2077 coming to Game Pass came across as an audacious idea, adding the other games certainly cements the whole thing as out of this world. Maybe there's a small chance that Microsoft puts a huge budget into bringing third-party games to Xbox Game Pass either at their launch or quickly after. But to have no evidence that Microsoft is considering doing so up until now otherwise makes this more of an exercise in imagination.

What makes the entire thing interesting is that the video, beyond the third-party games, still lists a lot of Xbox games that are available on Game Pass or will be at launch. The list includes upcoming games like Halo Infinite, Minecraft Dungeons, Wasteland 3, and Bleeding Edge. But it also lists games that are already out, including Gears 5, The Outer Worlds, and Sea of Thieves, all games available via Xbox Game Pass.

Xbox South Africa's intention with the video is unreadable. It's possible that the video was simply intended to be a hype video for Xbox in general for 2020, rather than an Xbox Game Pass in 2020 video. It's possible that it was intended to be a Game Pass trailer, but the editor got their wires crossed and simply added a number of games they were looking forward to. Whatever the reason for the video, the likelihood that it was made in error is high. The likeliness that any of those third-party games are coming to Game Pass is near zero. But Xbox fans would certainly be open to a surprise.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases April 16, 2020, on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
