Rumors have started spreading online yet again that CD Projekt Red's Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to Xbox Game Pass, but fans shouldn't get too excited. Rumors first started last year that Cyberpunk 2077 was coming to Xbox Game Pass, but nothing ever came of it.

Last February, an image made the rounds online that seemingly showed Cyberpunk 2077 listed for Xbox Game Pass. This led many to believe that the game was coming to Microsoft's service at some point down the line, as accurate Xbox Game Pass leaks happen regularly. However, it's been nearly a year, and Cyberpunk still hasn't made its way to the platform. This wasn't even the first time that the game has been rumored for Xbox Game Pass; rumors of Cyberpunk 2077 coming to Game Pass were started in a separate instance as well, but CD Projekt Red came out to deny those reports.

Now it seems fans have been tricked by the aforementioned Cyberpunk 2077 image re-emerging online. A since-deleted Reddit post shared the image and tricked Xbox Game Pass subscribers into thinking Cyberpunk 2077 was on the way for the service, not realizing that the image was old. However, with the image being nearly a year old at this point, it's safe to say that it is not an indication at all that Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to Xbox Game Pass. Simply put, the latest Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox Game Pass rumors are based on a false premise and so fans shouldn't expect the open world game to come to Microsoft's subscription service any time soon.

That does not mean that Cyberpunk 2077 won't ever come to Xbox Game Pass. In fact, CD Projekt Red is preparing to release new Cyberpunk 2077 DLC in the form of the Phantom Liberty expansion, and so maybe it could strategically leverage Game Pass to get more people to buy the new content. Then again, CD Projekt Red has plans to bundle the DLC in a Cyberpunk 2077: Game of the Year Edition as well, so it might be hesitant to give people access to the base game without making them pay for it.

CD Projekt Red has made its games available on Xbox Game Pass before. There once was a time that the acclaimed Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was available to play through Xbox Game Pass, and so it's not out of the question that Cyberpunk 2077 could make its way there eventually. However, fans shouldn't take the image that's been making the rounds online as evidence that such a thing is actually going to happen.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
