In a game like Cyberpunk 2077, what's weird might be wholesome instead. Truth be told, it's hard to find any remaining social outliers in Night City if the norm is a culture of excess. Surprisingly enough, some players still managed to squeeze in some bizarre modifications of their own.

Their mods are far from the usual performance enhancements. While everyone else was busy improving the game in its messy state, other modders were putting their own odd and exciting touches to it. The result is Cyberpunk 2077 becoming even more outlandish, just when you thought it couldn't get any more broken.

Updated October 2, 2022 by Sid Natividad: Cyberpunk Edgerunners was a huge hit and to cope with that depressing ending or to maybe appreciate the show better, modders have flocked to Cyberpunk 2077 to "improve" the game. As such, Cyberpunk 2077's modding scene is very much alive and kicking.

Not all mods are the usual offering of improvements or reference inserts, however. Some are downright bizarre additions to the game that either make Night City even more dysfunctional or allow players to view the game from an entirely different perspective. These additional mods ought to reinforce Night City's weirdness even more.

12 JB - TPP MOD WIP third person

JB - TPP MOD WIP third person image

Cyberpunk 2077 was never meant to have a third-person view due to how clunky the first-person movements are (one can see this in V's self-shadows in-game). That's why even the modder implementation for a third-person view remains quite odd these days. There's something off about it. Players can check this out via the JB - TPP MOD WIP third person.

Even the mod's latest version shows V's first-person animations in a third-person perspective and they look rather ridiculous and almost alien. It's clear why the developers didn't bother with the third-person view as the animations likely would take too much time.

11 DOOM Reshade

DOOM Reshade image

Ever wanted to improve the Night City atmosphere with a retrofuturistic 1980s atmosphere? Then the DOOM Reshade mod for Cyberpunk 2077 will do that and more. It renders the game in a much lower pixel count where it almost looks 16-bit, thus matching the old Doom game's visuals.

This is a whole new way to play Cyberpunk 2077 and it can almost feel like something else especially if players just keep focusing on violence. The only thing missing is a 1980s synthwave or electro-pop soundtrack to complete the theme, and it's a different game from there on.

10 Rogue - Forever Young

Rogue - Forever Young mod image

Just like how there were mods that made Johnny Silverhand significantly cleaner and sober, there's also a mod that made Rogue Amendiares less of a grandmother. Well, technically, her age makes her a grandmother but supposedly, the in-game references and dialogue make it seem like Rogue still had the appearance of a teenager.

So the Rogue - Forever Young mod set out to fulfill that lore expectation. Still, it feels weird. Because Rogue is supposedly the top dog in the Night City fixer and merc community. Giving her this kind of punk and bratty young appearance doesn't exactly do her reputation a favor. If anything, she looks a lot less imposing with this mod.

9 Wall Hang

Can't get enough of Spider-Man Remastered? Then the mod Wall Hang for Cyberpunk 2077 sort of makes V a discount wall-crawler in Night City. This mod lets V cling to walls as if they have some kind of weird cybernetic implants that pin them to walls for some kind of obscure advantage.

If anything, it's more of a cool-factor mod as it doesn't have much of a gameplay effect. Forget about doing this in front of enemies and expecting a reaction. To them, someone hanging from a wall seems like a regular Tuesday.

8 Kiroshi Opticals - Crowd Scanner

Kiroshi Opticals - Crowd Scanner image

The Kiroshi Opticals - Crowd Scanner mod brings the Watch Dogs experience to Night City where players can scan individuals and civilians in order to see their backstory. And no, it's not just a single sentence summing up their crimes or moral lapses; this mod writes paragraphs of stories about the in-game NPCs.

The funny lore implication for that is who writes these stories? Is it V's cybernetics writing a brief biography judging by the NPC's looks? In any case, it's a good way to kill time in Night City, especially if players want to make Humans of New York-style screengrabs.

7 Out Of Night City

outside night city

Speaking of getting tired of some aspects of Cyberpunk 2077, Night City can be a handful sometimes with its constant assault on the senses. All those neon lights are just dizzying, and everyone wants to either kill the players or have coitus with them, sometimes both. Players could leave to go hang out with the Aldecaldos, but those sand storms are brutal.

Thankfully, a mod like Out of Night City exists and takes players, well, out of Night City. That's it, that's just what it does. Don't expect anything outside of Night City, it's just a barren wasteland. In fact, players might want to go back in after getting bored with it immediately. But hey, it's good for screengrabs.

6 Chrome Female V

Can't decide how to build your character in Cyberpunk 2077? Is Skippy not hitting hard enough? Then maybe let other players decide for you. Some of them have made the shiniest V available, literally. Someone made a mod and save file called Chrome Female V.

Why? Because some of us can't handle the societal pressure of having flawless skin. What more would V want from Night City where everything is superficial? Besides, if players ever wanted some android-looking character for their Blade Runner roleplaying, then this mod lets that happen somewhat.

5 Cleaned Up Silverhand

cleanup up silverhand

While on the topic of changing up some character appearances to reflect their best physical state, Johnny Silverhand is a total wreck of a human being. All those drugs and anger issues made even his digital version look like a semi-hobo.

He didn't even need to look like that since he was just a program. Silverhand could have easily made himself look like he took a digital bath at the very least. So, the Cleaned Up Silverhand mod does just that to poor Johnny boy. The modder also probably just wants a more handsome version of Keanu Reeves for themselves.

4 Ghost Forward

Johnny Silverhand Walking Away From The Camera Towards The City

Cyberpunk 2077 disappointed a lot of people on release and was so buggy that even some of its weirdest mods still have a hint of practicality with them. In Night City, it can be easy to get stuck in some environmental geometry or certain layouts can prove to be too tedious and players just wish they could skip the traversal.

With a mod called Ghost Forward, that can happen a lot. It lets players teleport a short distance, and it works for getting behind walls or through some annoying railings. It does make V look like a walking glitch, but the citizens of Night City ought to be used to that by now.

3 Disabled Crowd

Fancy a city without its citizens? With one nifty mod, players can achieve that and even skyrocket their computer's performance with Cyberpunk 2077. It's a mod called Disabled Crowd and it sacrifices immersion for a playable experience.

That's what it has come to, sadly. Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most demanding games on the market right now, so even a tweak as dramatic as this is welcome. On the plus side, it completely changes the atmosphere of the game; it can feel more like a post-apocalyptic romp.

2 Modest Ads 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 censored mod

A sightseeing tour in Night City can get more nauseating than titillating with all the genital and sex-enhancement tools on the billboards. Those companies ought to tone it down. It's like no one has ever heard of minimalism.

So, some decent folks in the community got fed up with the ads and decided to make Night City a little bit normal by changing the ads. The Modest Ads 2077 mod switches the loud and scandalous ads to something more wholesome and civilized. That's what passes for weird in Night City as the times are a-changing.

1 Hats Are Hairs

Cyberpunk 2077 Misty Staring Into The Eyes Of V

Spending a lot of time in Cyberpunk 2077's character creator only for a hat to cover V's face is a sad experience. Too bad players need that headgear bonus, and there's no other stylish way to get the best of both worlds (other than completely hiding headpieces).

Well, now there is with the Hats are Hairs mod. It adds dozens of hair models in the game that replace all the headgear models. Hence, wearing hats might as well be changing hairstyles in Night City thanks to this mod.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
