Of the many games to be released in 2020 so far, one could argue that the most highly anticipated game release of 2020 is Cyberpunk 2077. Having started development in 2012 and finally unveiled during E3 2018, Cyberpunk 2077 is a game that many in the gaming community have been looking forward to for quite awhile and now, the sales charts are certainly starting to prove that.

Despite the multiple delays throughout the year, including the delay that pushed the release Cyberpunk 2077 into December, the excitement surrounding this game has hardly dwindled. With a multitude of promotional materials and gameplay footage that have been shown off over the last several months, there's still a lot to be excited about in terms of this game. In fact, there are many people out there already who are confident enough in this game to pre-order it, which has led to massive success.

According to Twitter user Daniel Ahmad, the top selling Steam games of last week ending on November 29th placed Cyberpunk 2077 at the top of the list. The game hasn't even been released yet and somehow it managed to outsell both Hades and Doom Eternal, both of which are nominated in multiple categories at the Game Awards this year.

It could have something to do with the fact that the Steam Autumn Sale was happening during this timeframe and therefore, there might have been a higher volume of users online to purchase the game. Then again, this game has been hyped up for literal years now, so given the fact that the game is a little over a week away, some fans might be a bit more excited than usual.

For a game that has been in development for eight years and has been hyped up for so long, it will be interesting to see how well Cyberpunk 2077 is received. Final Fantasy 7 Remake had similarly been teased for over five years and was received favorably by many in the gaming community after it launched, even receiving a Game of the Year nomination at the Game Awards.

In any case, there is still some time left before the game finally launches. Some fans previously speculated that the game would get delayed again after following all of the continuous delays the game has received. However, CD Projekt Red recently assured its investors that the game was on track to release on the 10th of December as scheduled, so it seems as if there's nothing that will stop the game's release this time.

Cyberpunk 2077 launches on December 10th, 2020 for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One with PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game currently in development.
