Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED teases a major plot twist between player character V and an NPC seen in both of the game's gameplay reveals. The studio hints that something big has gone down between the two characters in the time between last year's gameplay stream and the new gameplay trailer it released at E3 2019.

In the first edition of Night City news, CD Projekt RED's Cyberpunk 2077 newsletter, the developer writes about an NPC named Bug. Bug has cybernetic augmentations and can use a "brain-computer interface" to search the web and hack information that she can sell. The character is also described as consistent, persistent, and as someone who is trusted and respected.

Player character V worked with Bug in the Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay reveal from Gamescom 2018 when the NPC helped V  find a target in the mission. However, things changed with the new gameplay trailer from E3 2019, where Bug hacks V and prevents the player character from using augmentations.

V barely makes it out of the building alive because of Bug's skills. The player character does get to have a chat with Keanu Reeves' character Johnny Silverhand after, but no one really wants to get double-crossed in a business transaction.

In Night City News, CD Projekt RED says that it "can't wait to see the plot twist between those two events!" The developer isn't giving much away but it does confirm that the tides can turn at any moment in Cyberpunk 2077. One minute V can be working with someone as they have a shared goal but the next, they could be attacking V as the player character stands in their way.

It also confirms that Cyberpunk 2077 players will be in for a few surprises with the game's story. CD Projekt RED hasn't revealed much about the game's plot, only showing small sections of the story such as NPC companion Jackie being killed and the double-crossing seen in the E3 2019 trailer. However, the game may offer many of these plot twists as characters' real motives are discovered and NPCs try to use V to get ahead in the hierarchy of Night City.

Most of these plot twists will be kept a secret until the game releases next year. CD Projekt RED is planning to show more Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay at PAX next month, though, and this may give fans an idea of what the story will offer.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on April 16, 2020 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
