Skippy is one of Cyberpunk 2077’s most popular iconic weapons and for good reason. Not only is Skippy interesting unto himself, because he is a talking gun who has plenty of opinions about V’s kills, but he’s quite powerful too. When making the right choices, it’s easy enough to carry Skippy through any of Cyberpunk 2077’s endings.

However, there is a series of choices players have to make when it comes to Skippy. Finding Skippy in Cyberpunk 2077 is simple enough, but players will want to make sure they select the mode they want. Indeed, it requires a little bit of foreknowledge to get and retain Skippy at his full strength, so here’s what players need to know.

Cyberpunk 2077 Skippy Modes Explained – Stone-Cold Killer Or Puppy-Loving Pacifist?

When found, players will have a choice between Stone-Cold Killer or Puppy-Loving Pacifist for Skippy. The difference between the two modes boils down to how Skippy hits enemies: Stone-Cold Killer results in Skippy exclusively hitting headshots and Puppy-Loving Pacifist will only hit enemies in the legs. Between the two, players will want Stone-Cold Killer on Skippy, as it’s the more powerful choice. However, players should be aware of how these modes operate in the longer term.

Does Skippy Change Modes in Cyberpunk 2077?

Yes, Skippy will change modes in Cyberpunk 2077. After roughly 50 kills, Skippy will change over to the mode the Cyberpunk 2077 player did not select, for one reason or another. The workaround here is pretty simple, though. To get and keep Skippy set to Stone-Cold Killer, players should choose Puppy-Loving Pacifist at first.

Cyberpunk 2077 Telling Skippy What Kind Of Damage To Do

It may make the first 50 kills slightly harder, but after that, Skippy turns straight into Stone-Cold Killer. Depending on how players are going through Cyberpunk 2077, this choice is paramount. If, for some reason, players want a Puppy-Love Pacifist Skippy, that means they’ll need to choose Stone-Cold Killer first and then wait for the change. It’s important to note that, once Skippy makes this change, he won’t change again. Players are stuck with the exact opposite of what they chose at first.

Cyberpunk 2077 Skippy Machine Gun Quest – Should You Give Him Back to Regina?

After a few days pass in Cyberpunk 2077, Skippy will chirp in with his own personal quest. In completing it, players can return Skippy to his original owner, who is the cyberpsycho-chasing, NCPD Fixer Regina Jones. Returning him comes with a decent monetary reward, but his mode should be the deciding factor for players here.

If they have Skippy locked to Stone-Cold Killer, he’s worth far more than the reward and is worth holding onto. If the initial choice was made incorrectly in Cyberpunk 2077 and Skippy gets locked on Puppy-Loving Pacifist, then players might as well return Skippy to Regina Jones. With these choices, consequences, and quest in mind, players should be mindful of their choices when picking up Skippy.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are available now.
