It is difficult to talk about Cyberpunk 2077 without thinking about the flurry of controversies surrounding it. From the recent hack of CD Projekt Red to the buggy mess the game released as, there is no shortage of hot topics regarding the science fiction title. It is easy to forget there is game behind all of these hot button stories.
While Cyberpunk 2077 has polarized fans, most agree on the story being the highlight of the adventure. After letting the dust settle on the ending, fans' minds are wondering what plot points and endings a sequel could follow up on. Whatever they do, people just hope the actual project is managed better.
10 Where Johnny Goes
If players decide to let Johnny take over V's body, the character ends up leaving town. Where he goes is completely up in the air. Does he go and live in the desert surrounding Night City, or does he venture somewhere further? More importantly, will he go a live a quiet life or continue the fight against Arasaka and the other corporations? It would also be interesting seeing him live with the guilt of surviving when V did not.
9 V In Mikoshi
If players decide to side with Hanako Arasaka, they have the option to upload V's consciousness to Mikoshi until the company finds a way to put V into another body. If this ending is canon, the sequel could go in several different directions. Maybe it takes many decades, even a century, to find a body for V, or still-living characters try to save V from Arasaka's hands. There could even be sequences taking place within Mikoshi, showcasing what is like to exist inside the server.
8 Cracking Mikoshi's Final Problem
This one is somewhat related to the prior ending, but it does not have to be specifically about V and does not have to follow the ending where the protagonist ends up in Mikoshi.
A sequel about Arasaka trying to find a way to put a consciousness from Mikoshi into a new body could dive deeper into the corporate warfare aspect of the genre. Imagine the new character trying to steal information and kidnap scientists from other corporations in order to get a head start on new technology.
7 V With Panam And The Aldecados
Most of the endings are tragic in one way or another. The most positive one sees V surviving with a limited amount of time left, but running away with Panam and the Aldecados who promise to try and find a solution to the protagonist's problem. Being with a bigger group could create more unique gameplay mechanics from the first game, such as having a camp or more companions. The Aldecados are just cool people, so it would be nice hanging out with them more.
6 Saving Jackie
Depending on what ending one chooses, V has the opportunity to see Jackie in Mikoshi. Unfortunately, it is not as complete a copy like Johnny Silverhand or Saburo Arasaka. However, fans cannot help but wonder if there is still a way to save Jackie based on what is there of him inside Mikoshi. Perhaps a sequel could explore this possibility. Despite the short amount of time players spend with Jackie, he quickly became a fan-favorite character.
5 The Net
The Internet exists in a different form than what people are used to in the real world. Not only can people jump into the Net like it is a physical space, but much of it is also blocked off by safeguards due to a vicious virus that was uploaded earlier on in the lore. Some players were disappointed that cyberspace was not a bigger part of Cyberpunk 2077 because it is such a staple of the genre. Perhaps a sequel could remedy this.
4 The Middle East
It is easy to forget, but there is a huge world in Cyberpunk 2077 beyond Night City and Japan. Some regions are in a vastly different state than they are in the real world. The Middle East, for example, is an irradiated wasteland due to a prior nuclear conflict. By 2077, some corporations have started venturing into these wastes for resources. Perhaps a game could take place here, showcasing an entirely different side of the world.
3 Whatever Alt Cunningham Does With Mikoshi
In certain endings, Alt Cunningham takes control of Mikoshi. Her intentions with the servers are mysterious, implying that something bigger is in the works. Alt Cunningham is not the person Johnny Silverhand knew all those years ago, so it is difficult to say what her intentions are. If a sequel followed up on this, players would find out if her plans were beneficial or detrimental to mankind. Maybe a fragment of the old Alt Cunningham is still in there somewhere.
2 The Power Vacuum Left By Arasaka
If players choose a direct assault on Arasaka and reject Hanako Arasaka's plan, the company is left falling into a downward spiral.
With such a big corporation going down, a power vacuum undoubtedly forms, and all the other companies are bound to try and fill in that spot at the top. This no doubt will lead to bloodshed and destruction, making one wonder if hurting Arasaka so bad was the right thing to do.
1 Trying To Find A Cure For V's Condition
Running away with the Aldecados does not have to be the only ending that involves trying to help V. Maybe a sequel could still take place in Night City immediately after the ending where V takes over the Afterlife. With the protagonist's increased resources, maybe some of the game could take place in space, like this ending shows. Perhaps there really is no way to save V, which would only drive home the point about the inevitability of death despite all the technology available to humanity in 2077.
