The They Won't Go When I Go side quest in Cyberpunk 2077 involves a man named Joshua Stephenson who believes he's the new Messiah. As a result, he wants to sacrifice himself in the name of his faith.
Joshua Stephenson is an NPC featured in one of Cyberpunk 2077's most disturbing quests, a prison inmate with the NCPD after having murdered a civilian but has since changed his ways by becoming a devout Christian. During the first quest in this chain of events, Sinnerman, a client named Bill Jablonsky will want Joshua dead. To proceed with the questline, V will need to go with Joshua and the NCPD rather than kill him. During the second quest, There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, Joshua will inform V of his plan to sacrifice himself.

Players will interact with many interesting and eccentric characters over the course of Cyberpunk 2077 in both the main and side quests. One of the quests deals with a convict named Joshua and his journey to redeem himself by recording a twisted braindance that would convey the pain Christ felt to viewers all over the world. Here's everything you need to know about his crucifixion and how much V can get involved in it.
Cyberpunk 2077: Can You Save Joshua?

A braindance studio in Night City is attempting to exploit Joshua to make a blockbuster hit. Joshua would have been executed for his crime anyway, but the braindance studio representatives convinced him that his death would not be in vain if he helps them make a film in which Joshua is crucified.
There are multiple points at which V can opt out of being part of these Cyberpunk 2077 quests. First, V can kill Joshua during Sinnerman as originally planned. This will give V their normal cut of the profits for getting the job done but will lock V out of the subsequent quests. Secondly, during There Is A Light That Never Goes Out, Rachel will offer V a bribe to walk away because their presence is interfering with Joshua's state of mind and therefore could hurt the overall quality of the braindance. Johnny Silverhand will hate this option, but V can take the money and walk if the player doesn't want to witness the gruesome aftermath. If V is a Corpo, they can negotiate for an even bigger chunk of change.
Unfortunately, though V can change their level of involvement, question Joshua's faith, or encourage it, there's no way to save Joshua from being dying one way or another.
Cyberpunk 2077: Should You Watch, Participate, or Leave in Joshua's Quest?
He will go through with the crucifixion in one of Cyberpunk 2077's most horrific scenes, but the player can choose if they want to watch the recording, leave before it starts, or even participate in it, because Joshua will request that V be the one to nail Joshua to the cross.
Participate
In V chooses to participate in the braindance session, they'll say some lines while nailing Joshua to the cross. This will result in Rachel being more than satisfied with the BD recording, especially because of V's performance as well.
Later on, she'll call V and even give them a bonus on top of the regular pay they were due. Suffice it to say, players who can stomach the act of nailing a living human being on a cross should opt for this option to get the most personal experience with this quest and also get a decent reward as a bonus.
Watch
Of course, some players might not be comfortable with the idea of personally sending Joshua to the grave. However, out of respect, V can also choose to just watch as the crucifixion happens.
However, players should keep in mind that they will only receive normal compensation and not a bonus. Given how inconsequential money becomes in the long haul, this isn't all that bad an outcome for this quest as most people would believe.
Leave
The very idea of crucifixion can be a sensitive subject for many players. So, there's absolutely no shame in leaving the premises if they're not comfortable with the events that are about to happen, especially if they have no control over the same.
Thankfully, there aren't any huge drawbacks from a gameplay standpoint for refusing to watch Joshua be crucified. Even if V chooses not to witness the event and leaves the building, they'll still receive compensation for finishing the quest.
Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One. It will release on PS5 and Xbox Series X in 2021.
