First announced all the way back in 2012, it's safe to say that gamers have been waiting a long time for Cyberpunk 2077. After last year's impressive E3 2018 trailer and the gameplay footage that was released at GamescomCyberpunk 2077 generated even more buzz, but it remains to be seen exactly when fans will be able to get their hands on the game. While most estimates point to a 2020 release for Cyberpunk 2077, a new rumor claims the game may be releasing later this year.

This rumor stems from a Slovakian online game store called ProGamingShop. Instead of a standard placeholder release date for Cyberpunk 2077, the retailer claims that the game is launching on November 28, 2019. Some have already written off this placeholder date leak since November 28 is Thanksgiving and it's on a Thursday, but that may not be enough to dismiss the rumored Cyberpunk 2077 release date just yet.

While video games typically release on Tuesdays and Fridays, and almost never on Thanksgiving, it's worth pointing out that Cyberpunk 2077 has multiple distributors that are working to release the game worldwide. Warner Bros. is distributing the game in North America, whereas Bandai Namco is publishing it in 24 different European countries, though Slovakia is apparently not one of them. It's unclear who is handling distribution in the region, but with multiple distributors in different areas of the world, it's possible that Cyberpunk 2077 will come to Slovakia on November 28, and release elsewhere on a different day that week.

rumor: cyberpunk 2077 release date leaked

It's certainly possible that this Cyberpunk 2077 release date leak is accurate, but there are other reasons to disbelieve it. One of the biggest being that CD Projekt Red itself has made no indication that Cyberpunk 2077 is coming in 2019. CD Projekt Red has said it will release Cyberpunk 2077 when it's ready, without providing any kind of a timeline on when that might be.

Another reason why this supposed Cyberpunk 2077 release date is hard to believe is because of the game's potential status as a cross-generational title. It's been suggested that Cyberpunk 2077 is coming to the PS5 and next Xbox as well as current-generation hardware, which would make a 2020 release date more likely, as that's when the new consoles are expected to launch.

If Cyberpunk 2077 is going to come out in 2019 somehow, then fans should be able to expect confirmation of that at E3 2019. Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the few games already confirmed for the big show in June, and while its appearance may not come with a release date, it should at least shed more light on CD Projekt Red's ambitious new game.

Cyberpunk 2077 is in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
