Cyberpunk 2077 was originally set to launch in the very busy month of April, right after the Resident Evil 3 remake and hotly anticipated Final Fantasy 7 Remake. However, CD Projekt Red has now announced that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed, revealing a new release date of September 17, 2020 for all platforms.

Instead of just announcing the Cyberpunk 2077 release date delay, CD Projekt Red has also offered some explanation for the delay. As explained by the studio, Cyberpunk 2077 is "complete and playable," but it wants more time to polish the experience. The massive scale of the game requires even more playtesting and bug fixing than the studio was expecting, but hopefully the extra work is worth the wait.

CD Projekt Red seems to think that the delay will be worth it for those looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077. "We want Cyberpunk 2077 to be our crowning achievement for this generation," the studio explained, "and postponing launch will give us the precious months we need to make the game perfect."

While some fans may still be disappointed that Cyberpunk 2077 has been delayed from its original April release date to September 17, on the bright side, CD Projekt Red has promised more regular development updates. This way fans can better track the studio's progress as development on the game wraps up. So while the wait to explore Night City for themselves may be a long one, at least Cyberpunk 2077 fans won't be left out of the loop.

The Cyberpunk 2077 release date delay may very well end up being a good thing for the game. The main thing is that it gets it out of the super-busy April month, giving it a bit more breathing room in September. Right now, the only other big game confirmed for a September release is Marvel's Avengers, but that will be launching a couple of weeks before Cyberpunk 2077 anyway.

Even with these delays, the first half of 2020 is still stacked for video game fans, and now it's looking like the second half of the year is going to be quite formidable as well. Of course, it's always possible that Cyberpunk 2077 is hit with another delay before launch, but for now, fans can safely circle September 17, 2020 on their calendars.
