Many are looking forward to Witcher 3 developer CD Projekt Red's upcoming role-playing game, Cyberpunk 2077. Because Cyberpunk 2077's release date is still a long ways off, it is often rumored that it will release on next-gen consoles, perhaps even as a launch title. However, the game is confirmed to be in development for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, though this doesn't rule out the possibility that the title could also launch on next-generation consoles.
Now, there is the suggestion that not only could Cyberpunk 2077 release on current-gen platforms and consoles, but also next-gen consoles. During CD Projekt Red's recent FY 2018 financial report, Board of Directors member Adam Kiciński talked about the game at length, confirming it is in an "advanced state" and won't be influenced by any recent gaming trend.
On the possibility of Cyberpunk 2077 being a cross-gen title, Kiciński notes that CDPR would likely follow up on the opportunity if it were to arise. In fact, he stated, "If there is an opportunity for us to launch Cyberpunk for another generation, we would want to do this probably." This will likely excite CD Projekt Red's fan base, as there will be many who will be slow to transition to the next generation of consoles.
Another exciting facet that was discussed during this report is the currently unannounced CD Projekt Red game that is set to launch prior to 2021. Kiciński states that he wants this project to exceed gamers' expectations, despite the team being small in comparison to the one working on Cyberpunk 2077.
Although details on that unannounced title are scarce at best, more news will be forthcoming about Cyberpunk 2077 at E3 2019. It may be too early to hope for a release date announcement, but perhaps a release window will be firmly established. Until then, we just have to wait until CD Projekt Red decides to show their hand a little more.
Cyberpunk 2077 has yet to receive an official release date, but is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
