Cyberpunk 2077 has seen a major resurgence in recent weeks as CD Projekt Red reveals the game has seen 1 million daily active players for four weeks in a row. The massive open-world action-adventure game was one of the most anticipated games leading up to its late 2020 launch, after nearly a decade in development. However, the game's release was met with significant criticism from fans for its deluge of technical issues. CD Projekt Red has consistently been pushing updates to the game since its release and, now, the developer's efforts are clearly paying off.

CD Projekt Red revealed through the official Cyberpunk 2077 Twitter account that the game has seen 1 million active players every day for the past four weeks. Cyberpunk has seen a significant spike in popularity across multiple platforms over the last month with player counts matching the game's launch numbers. Many fans have attributed the recent boost in popularity of Cyberpunk 2077 to Netflix's recently released Cyberpunk: Edgerunners animated series, as well as the newly announced Phantom Liberty DLC.

Cyberpunk 2077's recent success comes as Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has made waves through the gaming community. The anime adaptation created by Studio Trigger saw universal acclaim from fans, celebrating the series' flashy animation and capturing of Cyberpunk 2077's futuristic sci-fi potential. Edgerunners has also been held in high regards by members of the gaming community with prolific director Hideo Kojima praising Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. While many fans have been asking for a potential Season 2 of Edgerunners, CD Projekt Red would go on to confirm that a sequel to the animated series was not planned.

The recent success of Cyberpunk 2077 comes as the game has rebounded from its abysmal launch two years ago, considered to be one of the most high-profile controversies in gaming. The game's launch was plagued by a variety of bugs and technical issues, with console versions suffering from particularly egregious problems. The game's console issues were so severe that Sony even removed Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store for several months while CD Projekt Red fixed issues with the game's PS4 version.

The resurgence of Cyberpunk 2077 has led many fans to look towards the future of CD Projekt Red's ambitious sci-fi adventure. The release of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners on Netflix was shortly preceded by the reveal of the Phantom Liberty expansion for next-gen consoles and PC. CD Projekt Red would also reveal earlier this month that a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is in development, codenamed Project Orion. CD Projekt Red looks to have plenty in store for Cyberpunk 2077 fans in the future and player counts have shown the game maintains a passionate fanbase to this day.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
