[UPDATE: CD Projekt Red has clarified that there was a mistranslation and it does not have three Cyberpunk 2077 games in development. Rather, there are 3 of its 5 studios working on the upcoming game.]

CD Projekt RED has revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 will have three different playable origin stories for players. The origin story of the character is just one thing that players will be able to choose in the game's character customization suite, as they can also choose what their protagonist looks like and their character class.

At the beginning of Cyberpunk 2077, players will be able to play through a "Lifepath" which is a playable origin story. Like Dragon Age, another game which had playable origin stories, the origin story that players get in Cyberpunk 2077 is connected to what they've chosen in the character customization. There are three lifepaths and these are called Nomad, Corpo, and Street Kid.

CD Projekt RED hasn't detailed just what these different origin stories will offer players when the game launches next year. However, the developer has confirmed that each lifepath will have a different background and starting location. At least one of these lifepaths will be in the Badlands, which is an area that surrounds Night City and its districts.

The developer also hasn't said if players will get to go back to these starting locations once the origin mission is complete. CD Projekt RED has confirmed that it will release Cyberpunk 2077 DLC and so expansions that take players back to areas like the Badlands may be possible, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

The lifepaths are just one way that Cyberpunk 2077 will be different for everyone that plays it. In Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay footage, CD Projekt RED has also shown branching dialogue as players can choose to respond charismatically, aggressively, or lie their way out of a conversation. Players also have the option to take a stealthier approach or go in guns blazing.

There are also the many skills that players can pick, augmentations and enhancements to select, and Cyberpunk 2077 will have weapon modifications too. Players will be able to add scopes to their weapons and make other changes to the way that they work.

This is all good for players who plan to replay Cyberpunk 2077 many times, as they have with other CD Projekt RED games like The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It's not yet known just how long Cyberpunk 2077 will take to complete, but with the game's file size being so large and with origin stories potentially being so different, it could take players hundreds of hours to see everything.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be released on April 16, 2020 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
