According to a developer at CD Projekt Red, Cyberpunk 2077 will only receive one expansion due to the work CD Projekt Red is putting into Project Orion, the game's sequel. The new project was announced recently alongside two new Witcher projects and a brand-new IP for CD Projekt Red currently known as Project Hadar. The announcement of a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel excited a lot of fans, but it also raised some confusion as many have since pointed out that CD Projekt Red's current plans for the sci-fi RPG perhaps don't match prior stated intentions.Previously, it was expected that Cyberpunk 2077 would have more post-launch content than The Witcher 3. However, following the release of the first teaser for the Phantom Liberty expansion, CD Projekt Red made it clear that the DLC was the only major piece of content it had planned for Cyberpunk 2077. This led many to wonder how the future plans for the IP had changed and what CD Projekt Red was working on.RELATED: CD Projekt Red Co-Founder and CEO Stepping DownNow, it seems that the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel is the explanation for why CD Projekt Red is planning Phantom Liberty to be the only expansion for the game. Cyberpunk 2077 Senior Level Designer Miles Tost recently made a tweet for those wondering why there was only one expansion, stating that CD Projekt Red still has their back and following with an image of the announcement of Project Orion. This indicates that instead of creating more expansions for Cyberpunk 2077, the studio is instead working on a fully fledged sequel.

This will still likely disappoint some, especially those who had been excited by the prospect of multiple expansions adding to the experience of Night City. However, a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel opens a bunch of doors for the series going forward, especially if CD Projekt Red manages to learn from its mistake with the launch of the first game. The Phantom Liberty expansion shouldn't be discounted either, even if it is the only DLC coming to Cyberpunk 2077.

With a story that remains mysterious and intriguing, Phantom Liberty will likely give plenty of Cyberpunk 2077 players what they're looking for in terms of new content. With the resurgence of Cyberpunk 2077, thanks to consistent updates from CD Projekt Red and the success of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime, a lot of players are now hyped to see whatever comes next from the game or the Cyberpunk universe as a whole.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
