A new trailer shows that Cyberpunk 2077 will be getting an update soon, which will utilize the latest generation of Nvidia's Deep Learning Super Sampling, or DLSS. Recently, Nvidia announced a launch date for its upcoming RTX 4090 GPU, with the next generation of graphical hardware due to kick off on October 12. Alongside the actual card itself, the company unveiled that its Ada Lovelace architecture will use DLSS 3, the new iteration of its image upscaling algorithm, which will support a number of games and software.

Despite the tumultuous launch of Cyberpunk 2077, which resulted in the game being taken down from the PlayStation Store due to its sheer number of problems, CD Projekt Red's sci-fi open-world title has managed to turn itself around. With Cyberpunk 2077 getting the Phantom Liberty DLC next year, as well as the studio putting out a number of bug-squashing patches, things are looking a lot better for the dystopian RPG, and this latest announcement from Nvidia is just another way the game continues to improve.

In a teaser trailer uploaded to YouTube recently, the upcoming update will see the upscaling technology from team green give Cyberpunk 2077 a visual boost, particularly in terms of lighting and shadow effects. Dubbed "Ray Tracing: Overdrive," the tech will be an improvement on the previous and current versions of Nvidia's DLSS, and will see the game look even more stunning than it already does. The video also shows a side-by-side comparison demonstrating that DLSS 3 will not only provide a graphical lift but will also improve framerates. The one downside to the technology is that it's only compatible with the upcoming RTX 40 series graphics cards.

Nvidia revealed that some other games will be getting the latest version of the ray tracing AI. Another recent video showed that the original Portal will also be getting upgraded to DLSS 3, as will titles like Hitman 3, Dying Light 2, and the upcoming STALKER 2 and A Plague Tale: Requiem. It's also going to be implemented in game development tool kits like Unity and Unreal Engines 4 and 5.

As for CD Projekt Red's game itself, the memory of that initial launch is still fresh in a lot of people's minds, but there's no denying that it's a different story nowadays. In fact, recently, Cyberpunk 2077 became the most played single player game on Steam, which gives some indication of just how far things have come since December 2020.
