No one who saw the company's E3 2018 press conference can say that Microsoft doesn't know how to close out a show after they debuted a brand new cinematic trailer for the long-awaited CyberPunk 2077Sporting off the stunning visuals and brilliant atmosphere that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt developer CD Projekt Red has become known for,  the trailer introduced fans to Night City. But surviving in this cyberpunk world will require players to get their hands dirty.

In an interview with Game Informer Patrick Mills, quest designer on CyberPunk 2077, confirmed that, while the game features many different ways to play, there is no pacifist playthrough option. "You do play as a mercenary, so there are not non-violent solutions to all problems," said Mills. "It's not possible go through the game non-violently. You're a mercenary. Your job is violence."

This might come as a disappointment to some fans who were hoping to be given all-out freedom in the new title but in reality, it makes sense. CD Projekt Red is a studio known for telling amazing stories first and foremost in their games, so if taking away a non-lethal option is better for their story of a mercenary then it's undoubtedly a better option. Besides, from what we know of the weapons and combat in this game, players are going to what to wreak some havoc.

Of course, all of this isn't to say that every mission in CyberPunk 2077 ends in death and destruction. As Mills points out, variety in the game is important to the developers and there are often ways to find non-lethal means to complete an encounter. "What we do want do want to do is provide room for subtlety and less aggressive options for sure," Mills explained. "Obviously that deal in the demo goes bad, but without spoiling anything, it may be possible to get through that encounter without that deal going bad depending on how you handle it."

So far, CyberPunk 2077 is shaping up to be something special, which isn't a huge surprise coming from CD Projekt Red. The studio cemented itself as a premiere game developer with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and has earned fan loyalty by proving they truly are for the players, criticizing the overuse of microtransactions and content locked behind paywalls. Though the studio has made it clear that the game is still some time away, it's pretty clear CyberPunk 2077 is going to be worth the wait.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but lacks an official release date.
