While the next generation of consoles has players excited, it's the prospect of new games that has them most excited. One game that has been riding high on hype since its reveal is Cyberpunk 2077. Created by CD Projekt Red to outdo the critically acclaimed Witcher 3 in asome respects, it's an ambition worthy of the hype.

Traditionally, Cyberpunk 2077 traces its lineage to the Cyberpunk RPG setting. Far from being the Grand Theft Auto clone that some may call it, the game is an RPG set in a dystopian, cyberpunk future. Megacorporations control everything that matters, urban problems are at all time highs, and people scramble to keep what they have, whether it's a lot or close to nothing. This is the world that Cyberpunk 2077 paints, and a recent trailer paints it in even more detail.

A new trailer for Cyberpunk 2077 puts the focus squarely on the game's setting: the sprawling metropolis of Night City. The trailer, titles Postcards from Night City, gives a glimpse of what life is like in all sectors, though only a glimpse. Cleverly split in half, the trailer first shows the high-rise glory of the city, as well as the glitz and glam of its popular shows. The nightlife is also highlighted, with everything from traditional bars to VR trips (possibly braindance) shown. The later section highlights the worst parts of life in Night City, from sprawling homeless shanty towns to the violence of the gangs of Cyberpunk 2077. It's definitely a city of extremes.

Beyond the stunning visuals, the best part of the trailer is a small web address given towards the end. This leads to an actual website, which is also written to be an in-game website. It gives details about Night City including its history, transportation methods, and most importantly, its various areas. The history is brief, talking only about the city's founding and endurance of a nuclear strike. Considering how crazy Cyberpunk 2077's history is, it's clearly only a taste of what to expect.

The City Center is clearly the pride and joy of Night City, touted as the safe and entertaining place to be. Heywood is also shown to be beautiful and the center of government, but possibly built on nuclear waste. Westbrook, being the temporary home of megacorp centers in the past, is similarly gorgeous. In fact, Westbrook seems like it might be the neighborhood of choice for those taking the Corpo life path in Cyberpunk 2077, at least if they're wealthy enough.

The less safe areas include, primarily, the Outskirts and Pacifica. The first is the only fully non-urban area, and the latter is riddled with crime. The former town of Wattson is similarly less safe and less pretty. Finally, Santo Domingo supposedly rests somewhere in between, although odds are it's worse than the website makes it sound. Considering what one of Cyberpunk 2077's creators has said about the cost of making a video game, it's likely a lot of love has gone into each area.

Cyberpunk 2077 launches on November 19 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with PS5, Stadia, and Xbox Series X versions coming later.
