Cyberpunk 2077 doesn't release until 2020, but CD Projekt RED is ready to start talking about what comes after. Due to recent questions regarding the developer's plans for multiplayer in Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt RED confirmed that multiplayer for Cyberpunk 2077 is in the works for a later release, but that's just the start.

As for what CD Projekt RED's DLC plans are, fans of the studio are going to be comfortably familiar. After confirming the studio's Cyberpunk 2077 multiplayer plans, it also confirmed that it had plans for both free DLC content. CD Projekt RED also notably says that it has plans for "DLCs" that will be free, insinuating that multiple free DLC packs are in the works and that premium single-player content will be coming as well.

The ordering of Cyberpunk 2077's DLC is perhaps the most interesting aspect of today's confirmations following Cyberpunk 2077's release first will be its free DLC plans where after the free DLC, or perhaps betwixt, will come premium single-player content. Cyberpunk 2077's multiplayer content will only be added to the game "once [they're] done" with the other content. In other words, first comes single-player content, then comes multiplayer.

For the most part, Cyberpunk 2077's DLC plans look a lot like CD Projekt RED's schedule for The Witcher 3, only with multiplayer. The Witcher 3's immediate post-launch focused entirely on free DLC: 16 individual bits of free DLC, at that. The DLC included new armor, new hairstyles, new quests, alternative looks for certain characters, and even a New Game + mode. After wrapping up free DLC, CD Projekt RED released The Witcher 3's Season Pass single-player DLC.

Comparisons to The Witcher 3 are perhaps too early. After all, The Witcher 3's Season Pass DLC is considered some of the best single-player DLC released in years. Cyberpunk 2077 has a lot to live up to in that regard. CD Projekt RED also took its time creating The Witcher 3's story DLC -- over a year for Blood and Wine. CD Projekt RED likely wants to move somewhat faster with Cyberpunk 2077, at least if it intends to put out multiplayer while the game is still in the public's eye.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases April 16, 2020 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
