A mod for Cyberpunk 2077 improves its driving mechanics such as car handling and braking, but while it may enhance the driving experience, don't expect it to make driving easier.

Driving is one of the many elements of Cyberpunk 2077 that came under fire after its flawed launch, alongside the many bugs that driving around Night City might trigger, like crashing PS5s or Rogue getting into V's vehicle while they're speeding down a highway at 120 mph. Driving often leads to chaos because of its poor handling, like accidentally plowing through civilians, resulting in the NCPD chasing after V. Players have complained that turning is too responsive while braking isn't responsive enough, but a mod for PC players tweaks these mechanics.

Available on Nexus Mods, the Realistic Driving Experience mod from hunter04119 is aimed at providing a truer driving experience, especially in the Badlands. While the creator of this Cyberpunk 2077 mod recommends using a gamepad, another version can be downloaded for those who prefer a keyboard and mouse. The mod makes drifting possible, improves curve behavior, providing a more realistic gravitational pull on vehicles, makes braking more responsive, and provides better handling in bikes, a mechanic many felt was overlooked.

The mod is inspired by Forza driving experiences, but it doesn't necessarily make driving in Cyberpunk 2077 "easier," the creator says. Because it's meant to be more realistic, some may find that driving is now more difficult than it was before, especially when treating Cyberpunk 2077 like GTA and exploring Night City at top speeds. After all, professionals are typically the only drivers trained to take turns at 150 mph, but the mod allows players to get that racing experience rather than having to treat it similar to day-to-day driving.

Currently, the Realistic Driving Experience mod for Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in version 1.5, which mainly fixed some issues found with version 1.4, but also provided some options based on user feedback, such as better grip. Adding more grip improves driving with cars such as the Quadra Avenger and Shine Coyote. Version 1.5 also provides a "more arcady feeling," the file description says, and makes drifting easier.

Many players have commented that the Realistic Driving Experience mod has vastly improved driving in Cyberpunk 2077. "The other driver mods do improve on the base driving experience," one says, "but this one nails it in my eyes." For other users who continuously failed The Beast in Me side quests, this mod helped them finally complete the races, even if they still took out a few pedestrians and mailboxes.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions in development.
