The setting of Cyberpunk 2077, Night City, sets out to let anyone be who they want to be, complete with customizable body parts, cyberpunk implants, and more. This creativity stands out despite being snuffed by the general dystopian world, where everything is controlled by large mega-corporations. It’s no secret Cyberpunk 2077 didn’t have the smoothest launch, but it does seem to have improved a lot over the few months.
Technical issues aside, after all, the draw is more about the dystopian world, beloved Cyberpunk 2077 characters, and V’s overarching story. The world is incredibly detailed, despite its flaws, so much so there are fuel prices posted in every Night City gas station. Interestingly enough, it seems the national average of US fuel prices is higher than in this dystopian video game world.
According to the American Automobile Association, the national gas price average is currently $5.014 and diesel averages at $5.771. Prices obviously change per state, with the lowest gas prices nationally being in the south and the highest being in western states, but the average for all states is undeniably high.

In Cyberpunk 2077, the fuel prices are cheaper as pointed out by Redditor EdgerunnerSebastian. It should be noted that, in the Cyberpunk universe, gasoline and diesel has been replaced by CHOOH2—it burns better than gas or diesel, but it’s deadly, causing blindness, disorientation, and potentially even death. A gallon of CHOOH2 is $4.80, while the highest grade available comes in at $5.32—still much cheaper than fuel prices.
Furthermore, CHOOH2 is designed to be cheaper than gasoline, which is $15.90 in the Cyberpunk universe. However, this is due to inflation, as well as scarcity. There is not a lot of gasoline circulating Night City, and it’s pretty clear why. So, while the comparison of contemporary gas and diesel to CHOOH2 comes with more than a few caveats, especially given one is a fictional world, it’s still an interesting comparison.
In terms of just Cyberpunk 2077, developer CD Projekt Red is currently hard at work on a new game in the Witcher universe, as well as a major expansion for Cyberpunk 2077. The latter recently leaked, potentially revealing several characters and locations involved, but the former remains mysterious. For now, fans will just have to wait and see what CD Projekt Red has up its sleeves.
