Today, CD Projekt Red finally unveiled gameplay demo footage of its highly anticipated action-RPG Cyberpunk 2077 to the general public, giving fans a much better idea of what they should expect once the title launches. Out of the myriad details shared by the demo, one of the more intriguing aspects lies in the way that players will be able to define their characters, as CD Projekt Red has designed a fluid class system for the game.

As seen near the start of the Cyberpunk 2077 walkthrough below, the gameplay demo's narrator breaks down the character customization features such as how the protagonist V can be either male or female and have their appearance augmented at an incredibly in-depth level. V's backstory can be filled in by making selections related to the character's childhood hero, a key life event, and the reason why they're currently in Night City. Apparently, these choices will unlock different, albeit currently undefined possibilities down the line. Most interesting, though, is how CD Projekt Red won't force players to pick and stick with a certain class at the outset, for even though characters' initial attribute stats can be chosen, their class is capable of being modified throughout the game.

While it's intriguing to say the least that V's attributes will be so customizable that players can mix specific elements from each character type to make a more distinctive class, CD Projekt Red doesn't really delve into the specifics with the walkthrough. With this being the case, one can only imagine how this type of progression works, but many will likely agree that the feature holds a lot of promise.

Instead of the traditional set of character types one would see in a typical science fiction game such as a soldier or scientist, Cyberpunk 2077's creator Mike Pondsmith previously revealed that the action-RPG will contain more unconventional types of classes. With CD Projekt Red having based the title on the original pen and paper version of the game, Pondsmith stated that classes like executive, journalist, rock star, and more will be available under such unorthodox titles as Corporate, Media, and Rockerboy, among others.

All things considered, it definitely looks as if CD Projekt Red is working hard to ensure that Cyberpunk 2077 is as unique and ambitious as possible in order to have it stand out in a major way among its contemporaries in the action-RPG genre. Of course, there will always be detractors, as some have already knocked the studio for giving the game a first-person perspective, with such criticisms levying that it causes the game to look too much like a standard shooter. Nevertheless, we will all simply have to wait and see how the title plays once it's officially available to the public.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently without an official release date, but is expected to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
