Although Cyberpunk 2077's release date could still be a few years away, it still hasn't stopped fans from wanting to learn as much as possible about the forthcoming action role-playing game from CD Projekt Red. As a matter of fact, while many potential players are aware of the title's implementation of a first-person perspective, they also want to know why such a choice was made by the developer. Thankfully, the studio recently decided to explain further why the project uses first-person gameplay.

According to Cyberpunk 2077 Quest Designer Patrick Mills, the main reason as to why CD Projekt Red wanted to utilize first-person for the action-RPG is due to the perspective's ability to facilitate better immersion on the whole. As the developer explained, the world of Night City can be both expansive and confining depending on the context of the situation players find themselves in, and first-person allows for a more vivid experience in either case.

"This is a world where I want to be able to look up and see the skyscrapers above me and third-person can’t afford that. It almost seems like a tiny, trivial reason but that’s actually really important.

"Inside buildings with tight corridors and the gunplay that we really wanted — this close, visceral sort of feeling — first-person can sort of get that."

While discussing some fans' initially skeptical reactions to Cyberpunk 2077's first-person perspective after the unveiling its E3 2018 demo, Mills made sure to assuage their fears by saying that what he has played and worked on so far with the developer tools has him confident with shooting, as it "feels pretty good". Plus, the action-RPG's Quest Designer explained that CD Projekt Red has brought on a lot of people to its development team who have worked on FPS titles before, as the studio "really want[s] to make sure to get that right".

Taking all of this into consideration, it definitely sounds like Cyberpunk 2077's first-person perspective is going to be essential in the way that players experience their stay in Night City once CD Projekt Red finishes work on the game. In between now and then, though, hopefully the public will actually be able to see some gameplay in action so that they can get an even better understanding of what's to come.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but is without an official release date.
