Cyberpunk 2077 is breaking new ground for CD Projekt Red and will allow players to customize their characters. From what's been shown, Cyberpunk 2077 will feature a Mass Effect-style character customization system. That means that there will be both a default masculine protagonist and a default feminine protagonist. As part of today's International Women's Day recognition, CD Projekt Red has issued the final art for the default fem Cyberpunk 2077 character. Or as CD Projekt Red has named her, Miss V.

Fans of CD Projekt Red may recall that the fem version of V has been featured somewhat prominently in Cyberpunk 2077's marketing, at least initially. Fem V was in some of Cyberpunk 2077's earliest gameplay trailers, including its award-winning E3 2018 gameplay debut and half of the E3 2019 presentation. However, fem V has been oddly absent from Cyberpunk 2077's cinematic trailers. This is perhaps due to CD Projekt Red taking much longer to finalize fem V's look.

The differences between the new V and the old V aren't huge, but they are notable. She still features the same hairstyle with a fade on one side, though it's now red-colored rather than black. Her makeup has also changed, with less or no eye shadow or mascara and much less prominent brows. Fem V also has quite a few more earrings and freckles than her earlier counterpart. Lastly, though it may just be lighting, fem V has a darker skin color than before. Whether her concept art look translates 1 to 1 to in-game visuals is a different matter.

It's unclear why CD Projekt Red changed fem V's look. Perhaps it's just a matter of her prior look never being intended to be final. Or perhaps the team just fell in love with the newer design and made the decision to switch relatively recently. To be fair, both fem V and masc V have gone through changes. Masc V had black hair to start as well, with the length of his hair varying from trailer to trailer.

It bears repeating that Cyberpunk 2077's default characters are completely customizable prior to the start of the game. If players don't like the default designs, then they can change them as they please. For a lot of players, however, the default character designs are of incredible significance. Both fem and masc Shepard from Mass Effect are iconic characters. Now potential Cyberpunk 2077 players get to meet fem V, who'll hopefully prove to be iconic as well.

Cyberpunk 2077 releases September 17 on GeForce Now, PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with an Xbox Series X version also in development.
