Until Cyberpunk 2077 sees the end of it's incredibly long redemption arc, CD Projekt Red may never catch a break. Now that BioWare and EA have pulled the plug on Anthem 2.0, Cyberpunk 2077 is alone as the last potentially great game standing, even though fans know it may never be the game they once hoped for. In light of the recent delay of the next set of patches, billionaire Elon Musk took the time to make a quick suggestion regarding Cyberpunk 2077's driving mechanics.
Whether Musk is still trolling or absolutely serious isn't clear, although one thing for sure is that the Tesla CEO also isn't new to making advances in electric cars and clean energy. Responding to CDPR's recent set of tweets regarding the Patch 1.2 delay, Musk pointed out that given the game being set in the year being 2077, Delamain AI cabs should not only be able to drive themselves while you're in them, but should be electric.
Although there are some moments in Cyberpunk 2077 wherein the Delamain cabs operate without any direction from the player, once acquired, the Delamain cabs must be driven the same as any other car. It is possible that CDPR originally had the idea in mind, though it's clear that at some point, the company experimented with train stations instead. On the other hand, the idea of electric cabs more or less fits within the lore implications of the universe. As one Twitter user points out, if the homeless in-game can operate near-lethal cyber prosthetics without charge, liquid fuel is probably a thing of the past.
Elon Musk hasn't hesitated in the past to take shots at what he considers a "great game." A day after he shared that his company's Tesla Plaid Model S can play both Cyberpunk and The Witcher 3, he took a lighthearted jab at Cyberpunk 2077's recent hotfixes. Before that, the SpaceX CEO posted a flurry of tweets trolling the apologetic CD Projekt Red in December 2020, including a photoshopped still of Michael Scott from the TV show The Office, and the Cyberpunk 2077 logo.
In any case, the richest man in the world is still a fan of the game, and given this recent tweet, he may even let them use the Tesla Cybertruck. Musk has previously granted access to a developer wanting to use the SpaceX name and logo in their game, and CD Projekt Red wouldn't meet any heavy resistance in convincing the billionaire likewise. On the other hand, CD Projekt Red still has its hands full bringing back to life Night City, meaning any real outside input can probably wait until DLCs are back on the table.
Cyberpunk 2077 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions coming in 2021.
