CD Projekt Red has just addressed a rumor about the upcoming Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty DLC and how it could connect to last year’s Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime. While Cyberpunk 2077 had a rocky launch back in 2020, many players have since warmed up to CD Projekt Red's futuristic RPG shooter thanks to a wave of patches and updates that fixed the worst of its many initial bugs and glitches. These fixes caused a delay in the developer’s plans for story-based Cyberpunk 2077 DLC, but fans will finally get to dive back into the rough streets of Night City when Phantom Liberty is released later this year.Details about what these fans can expect in Cyberpunk 2077’s Phantom Liberty campaign have been released at a steady pace over the past few months. As perpetually-troubled netrunner V, players will enter Pacifica’s crime-ridden Dogtown area and join forces with the mysterious FIA agent Solomon Reed - played by Hollywood mega-star Idris Elba. A recent rumor has also suggested that Phantom Liberty could see a special appearance from Falco, a major supporting character from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.RELATED: Cyberpunk 2077 Will Look Shinier Than Ever at GDC 2023 Thanks to Visual UpgradeHowever, the developer behind Cyberpunk 2077 has just confirmed that this won’t be the case. Not too long after the rumor began, CD Projekt Red PR lead Adam Grabowski verified on social media that the content shown in yesterday’s Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty leak is not part of the game, meaning neither Falco nor the spacefaring Crystal Palace casino shown in the leaked footage will be in the upcoming expansion.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was a surprising success when it launched on Netflix last September, and played a major role in Cyberpunk 2077’s recent boost in players over the past few months. Produced by Studio Trigger and made under the supervision of CDPR itself, Edgerunners tells the story of David Martinez, a young cyberpunk looking to make it big in the dangerous world of Night City. Edgerunners earned high praise for its animation, plot, and worldbuilding, and CDR even added several references to the show in Cyberpunk 2077 in an update patch not too long after it premiered.

Despite this, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners’s Falco won’t appear in Phantom Liberty, nor will players explore the space above Night City. It isn’t clear yet when Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty will be released, so more rumors are sure to come as CDPR prepares to launch its first and only storyline expansion for its latest RPG blockbuster later this year.

Cyberpunk 2077 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The Phantom Liberty DLC is due to launch exclusively on current-gen consoles sometime in 2023.
