Video game developer CD Projekt Red reveals its development team for Cyberpunk 2077 is currently larger than the group responsible for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

For those unaware, CD Projekt Red recently held an an investor relations meeting in order to discuss and sift through the information from the outcome of the company's previous financial quarter. The conference invited myriad questions on the Poland-based studio's investor relations forums, with a lot of the inquiries being driven toward some of the projects CD Projekt Red currently has in development, most notably its enigmatic science fiction role-playing game known as Cyberpunk 2077.

As it happens, when asked about the current status of Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red revealed that it has expanded the game's production team so much so that it now has even more developers working on the title than the multiple award-winning The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt had during its most crucial months of creation. Interestingly enough, this bit of news builds upon a previously released interview from last year with CD Projekt Red's CEO Marcin Iwinski giving an update about Cyberpunk 2077 wherein he described the studio having a "sizeable team" working on the game.

Taking the aforementioned reveal about Cyberpunk 2077's large development team into consideration, it should designate that CD Projekt Red has now swung into full gear when it comes to the title's production, as it also works on the forthcoming Gwent card game, which is set to launch next year. With this being the case, it certainly jives with the studio's public announcement from several months ago regarding the need for Cyberpunk 2077 to be "even better, even bigger, [and] even more revolutionary" than Witcher 3.

Of course, fans would do well to bear in mind that just because CD Projekt Red has increased the size of it's development team for Cyberpunk 2077 to more massive dimensions than ever before, it doesn't necessarily mean that the game will live up to the lofty expectations being put forth. In fact, there's a lingering possibility that the studio's decision to expand its development team for the game could result in the sci-fi RPG's quality being lower than Witcher 3's, as CD Projekt Red will subsequently have more tasks to delegate and people to manage, thus allowing for more potential problems.

However, that isn't to say CD Projekt Red's choice to grow its development team for Cyberpunk 2077 is a bad idea. In truth, it's only natural after the success and critical acclaim of Witcher 3 that the studio would want to make a game that's "more ambitious" than the third installment in Geralt of Rivia's adventures to satisfy itself from a creative standpoint, and give its fan base another unique experience.

So, although it seems as if CD Projekt Red has plenty of confidence in the current status of Cyberpunk 2077's production process, details are scant when it comes to the title's actual in-game assets or when fans should expect it to launch. However, a studio representative did state during the investor meeting that Cyberpunk 2077's release date will be a surprise.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently without an official release date, but it's expected to launch for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
