Without a doubt, CD Projekt Red wowed the crowd and those watching at home during Microsoft's E3 2018 press conference with its gorgeous cinematic trailer depicting the world of Night City inside the forthcoming action-RPG Cyberpunk 2077. As such, fans' interest in when the title will launch has increased even more so than before, leading to the company announcing that it will be targeting a current-gen release date for the game.

This much was confirmed during an interview held between Game Informer and Cyberpunk 2077's quest designer Patrick Mills, with the CD Projekt Red dev telling the outlet that fans should expect the game to come to the platforms that exist during this generation. Despite hearing "a number of people" say that the action-RPG will be a next-gen release, Mills stated, "The current console generation is what we're aiming for. We are aiming for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and of course PC as well."

While Cyberpunk 2077 fans should rest easy knowing that CD Projekt Red is aiming to come out before the PlayStation 5 or Xbox's next console, their expectations for a much later launch date in the next hardware generation is understandable. After all, the action-RPG is incredibly ambitious, as gameplay details point it containing a vast open world with highly detailed graphics and a wide variety of activities and possibilities for exploration.

Taking all of this into account, those looking forward to Cyberpunk 2077 have plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks and months, as CD Projekt Red will surely show the public some gameplay for the first-person action-RPG at some point down the line. After having been originally announced roughly six years ago, hopefully the studio won't make fans wait to see the game in action much longer.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in development for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, but lacks an official release date.
