Although production details for Cyberpunk 2077 remain relatively scant at this point in time, Mike Pondsmith, the creator of the 1988 tabletop version of the title, has now confirmed that CD Projekt Red's next release will feature several classes that can be construed as somewhat unconventional in terms of video games. Instead of traditional character types one would see in a typical science fiction game such as soldier or scientist, Cyberpunk 2077 will have classes like journalist, executive, rock star, and more.

Pondsmith confirmed as much in a recent video interview with GameReactor, explaining that the aforementioned classes and others will be ported from the pen and paper version of the game and into Cyberpunk 2077. However, the franchise creator asserts that fans will likely be surprised by the way these character types are implemented into the upcoming title, as CD Projekt Red managed to tweak them in a rather interesting way.

"I can tell you’re going to find some surprises about how we’ve done it and I think you’re really going to like it. There’s a lot of subtlety going on there. Adam (Kiciński, CD Projekt RED’s President and co-CEO) and I spent literally like a whole week messing with the ways of implementing that, so you get the most feel for your character."

For those unaware, the classes in the original Cyberpunk tabletop title are actually called "roles," and if all of them are to implemented in Cyberpunk 2077, then there should be nine different character types in total from which to choose. Similar to the actual attributes they will contain, their names are a bit unorthodox, too, as the classes are Cop, Corporate, Fixer, Media, Netrunner, Nomad, Rockerboy, Solo, Techie, and Med-Tech.

Of course, considering CD Projekt Red has decided to remain somewhat secretive about Cyberpunk 2077, as the studio has previously said it won't share official news until there's something substantial to show, Pondsmith couldn't offer up many more details regarding the game. Even so, with the game's dev team bigger than the one for The Witcher 3, it looks as if fans should expect a larger and even more immersive experience in Cyberpunk 2077 than Geralt of Rivia's last adventure.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently without an official release date, and has yet to be announced for specific platforms.
