Despite the controversies surrounding the launch of Cyberpunk 2077 in late 2020, excitement surrounding the brand remains high. Not only is CD Projekt Red still working on an expansion for Cyberpunk 2077, but the anime Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is currently in production for Netflix. Now a new addition to the Cyberpunk 2077 family has been confirmed. Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City is a new board game from CD Projekt Red and CMON, and it's already a success on Kickstarter. As is standard practice for most major board game announcements, Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City's announcement coincided with the launch of a crowdfunding effort. As is also standard practice, publisher CMON set a surprisingly modest goal for its Kickstarter campaign: $100,000. The result is that Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City has already blown past its $100,000 goal in the first few hours of the campaign, passing $250,000 with over two weeks left to raise funds.RELATED: New Cyberpunk Red Board Game Will Take Place in 2045Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City is a competitive board game intended to be played with 1-4 players. Players will be able to choose a story for how the game progresses, a unique gang for each individual player, and will then use units from the gang to spread their influence across Night City. The Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City board itself will represent Night City, split up into multiple regions. Players' units will be represented by full mini-figurines.

Those interested in funding the Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City campaign, securing a pre-purchase of the board game if it's successfully completed, can do so for a pledge of $110. A $110 pledge will secure a copy of the Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City core box, plus all additional stretch goal rewards including exclusive character profile cards and Edgerunner figures. Shipping is an added cost on top of the $110 pledge.

Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City is tentatively scheduled to be delivered in July 2023. While it may not be intuitive, since Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City has already completed its Kickstarter goal, it's always possible that Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City's campaign doesn't meet behind-the-scenes expectations and is canceled, so backers should keep that in mind.

For Cyberpunk 2077 fans hoping for a new type of experience in Night City and for board game fans looking to explore a cyberpunk universe without delving into pen and paper, Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City may offer just that kind of opportunity. Expect further updates on the Cyberpunk 2077: Gangs of Night City campaign as it continues to pull in pledges in the weeks to come.
