The hype around Cyberpunk 2077 has been building for years, and with the game raking in awards at seemingly every event it is shown at, it is easy to see why. That trend has continued for Cyberpunk, as the game has now been given the Best of Gamescom award for 2020.

Cyberpunk 2077 joins other recent Best of Show winners such as Super Mario Odyssey and Dreams. This is the game’s second time winning the award, with its first win coming back in 2018. This repeat win is both a testament to the game’s quality and how long it has been in development, but with a system as intricate as Cyberpunk’s lifepaths, the long time in development is easy to understand.

Cyberpunk brought in numerous other Gamescom awards in 2020, including best PC game and best PS4 game. It won most wanted game as well, which was voted on by the fans. There’s an incredible amount of excitement for Cyberpunk 2077, with the massive variety of weapons in Cyberpunk being one of the many features players are excited to get their hands on.

Gamescom first night highlights

The RPG mechanics for Cyberpunk sound even deeper than the gunplay, as numerous skills and abilities join deep character customization. In terms of dialogue, CD Projekt Red has promised players a lot of freedom to make conversations go the way they want, even adding an option that lets Cyberpunk players stay silent.

The game is, finally, coming close to its final release date of November 19th. While its first-person perspective differs from CD Projekt Red’s previous work on the Witcher series, it keeps one great thing from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Cyberpunk will feature a free DLC model much like their previous RPG, meaning there will be numerous free DLC packs in addition to major paid story expansions. If the free DLC is anything like the free content for Wild Hunt, Cyberpunk will be seeing outfits, weapons, and possibly even quests added to the game for free after launch.

With one final Best of Show award win behind it, Cyberpunk is approaching its launch with plenty of fan hype and praise from critics behind it. Players are only a few months away from finally exploring Night City and the areas outside it, so hopefully the game can deliver on its many exciting promises.

Cyberpunk 2077 will be available November 19th on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with PS5, Stadia, and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
