Many thought that Cyberpunk 2077’s disastrous launch in December 2020 essentially spelled the end of the game, but in large parts due to CDPR’s ownership of the mismanagement of the situation, continued goodwill of the community, variety of fixes and updates, and general faith that Cyberpunk 2077 can be a great game, many are still keeping their eye on the title.

If Cyberpunk 2077 is looked at as a potential redemption story, there is a clear upward trend in terms of quality and reception established in 2021. Recent sales even led to a ton of positive reviews being left on Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam (though, it should also be noted that the PC version has always been superior in terms of quality.) 2022 may be where the game hits the big climax, and that helps outline expectations for the game this year.

Cyberpunk 2077 – Early 2022 ‘Roadmap’

Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Xbox Series X

It’s best to begin with what fans know for Cyberpunk 2077 this year. Sometime early this year, the full native PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Cyberpunk 2077 are set for release. Alongside it, also, is Patch 1.5. Not much is known about exact enhancements yet, as they wouldn’t be, and CDPR has denied recent rumors about Cyberpunk 2077’s Patch 1.5, new features, and more.

The thing to keep in mind is that CDPR and Cyberpunk 2077 have historically struggled to keep up with any roadmap; ergo, fans should keep in mind early is pretty wide. Still, fans shouldn’t expect an announcement sometime in the next few weeks/months, but it’s not something fans should bet on. Beyond that, everything about Cyberpunk 2077’s potential this year is speculation, but there are a few clear elements.

Obviously, CDPR will continue to release bug fixes and patches for the game throughout the year. At the same time, the next major emphasis for the game is likely more free DLC and premium expansions. Expecting more than that may find itself slightly unreasonable; for example, while The Witcher 3 is on the Switch, fans really shouldn’t expect the same of Cyberpunk 2077 at least for now.

Throughout the year, Cyberpunk 2077 will likely get a few releases of free DLC. CDPR has already released a new vehicle, new cosmetics (jackets) for V, and an alternative outfit for Johnny Silverhand. These will likely be sprinkled around the new year alongside major patches and may even continue into next year. It’s likely that these DLCs ramp up and release more in 2022 than since launch thus far, especially as Cyberpunk 2077 continues to stabilize by CDPR standards.

Cyberpunk 2077 First Expansion Release Date?

The biggest question mark for Cyberpunk 2077 may be what’s to expect by the end of 2022. With the early year pretty clear and the free DLC and patches likely filling in areas, the most likely scenario is the first Cyberpunk 2077 expansion releases by the end of the year. This is just guesswork, but following a more stable base game, the biggest way to live up to its climax/redemption story is a first major expansion that adds new features, story content, and more. It would obviously come at a premium cost, but it may also persuade more people to return or pick it up for the first time.

Overall, right now, players have clear expectations for the first few months of the year, but the remainder is a big question. CDPR may put out a new Cyberpunk 2077 roadmap and that would be helpful, even if it’s not exact.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
