The Cuphead Show! won’t be getting a game over screen on Netflix anytime soon as the animated series based on the highly-acclaimed Cuphead just got a summer release date for its second season that will continue following the adventures of these two cup-shaped brothers.

Despite receiving mostly mixed reviews after its premiere earlier this year, Cuphead won’t join the long list of shortly-live productions Netflix has been axing as of late following the company’s stock market crisis. Just like the game created by brothers Chad and Jared Moldenhauer from Studio MDHR, the Cuphead animated series received plenty of praise for its vintage animation style, although the plot depicted in the cartoon’s 15-minute episodes failed to win over many.

Nevertheless, Cuphead is coming back to Netflix on August 19, with the infamous Devil returning to claim Cuphead and Mugman’s souls and every bit of the charm that fans of the games love about the series. King Dice is also back after being fired from his position as game show host by the Devil himself, as are Elder Kettle and Ms. Chalice, as well as brand new characters that promise to bring the show’s humor to fruition.

Of course, it looks like Cuphead and Mugman will be getting into their fair bit of trouble come season two and the trailer sees the duo shell out plenty of funny quips while showcasing some new parts of the Inkwell Isles. The season finale saw Cuphead and Mugman take the fall for Ms. Chalice and it looks like the boys will have breaking out of prison as the first issue to take care of once the series returns.

The timing of this Netflix Geeked announcement could not be any better as this year’s Summer Game Fest brought the final reveal for Cuphead’s long-awaited DLC, The Delicious Last Course, whose sole pricing of $7.99 makes it an incredibly appealing product for anyone who enjoyed the game. Regardless of that, the relatively quick production time between the two seasons might suggest for some that Cuphead’s second season had been greenlit by Netflix a long time ago, before the company turmoil began, which might make lower the chances of season 3 happening at all.

Cuphead's art style is famously difficult to pull off, with that being one of the prime reasons why the game's DLC took so long to be finished. Considering the series also packs the same orchestrated soundtrack, it's a wonder Cuphead is even coming to Netflix so soon.

The Cuphead Show! season two will be available on Netflix starting August 19, 2022.
