It's only been two weeks since Studio MDHR released its critically-acclaimed run and gun shooter Cuphead, but the retro-looking indie title has already been a remarkable success among the gaming community. With an increasing amount of fans playing the title, it comes as no surprise that the game has managed to hit a major sales milestone, managing to sell 1 million copies since it was launched.

In a new blog post from Studio MDHR, the developer revealed that Cuphead has sold over 1 million copies since it was released two weeks ago and has officially been certified platinum. This is an impressive achievement from the indie studio considering that the game is a Microsoft and PC digital-only exclusive, not to mention that Cuphead was the first project for the independent developer and seven years was spent making the game a reality.

From impressive speed-runs to eye-catching performances in which the game was completed without getting hit onceCuphead's challenging gameplay and unique 1930's art style has certainly captured the imagination of players everywhere. With the game currently riding a wave of positive critical and public acclaim, it is not out of the realm of possibility that Studio MDHR has plans for post-launch content.

The game currently only supports local multiplayer, but the studio teased that Cuphead may get an online co-op multiplayer feature at some point in the future. With how the game is structured around boss fights, perhaps there's a chance for DLC in the form of new worlds and bosses though it remains to be seen if this will actually happen.

Needless to say, Cuphead's success has come as a pleasant surprise for Studio MDHR, but it is great to see that all its hard work has paid off handsomely. With a physical release of a Cuphead Collector's Edition also being a possibility soon, don't be surprised if the run and gun indie shooter hits more sales milestones in the coming months.
