The One Change Every Cuphead Player Should Make

After years in development and a number of delays, the Fleischer-inspired platformer Cuphead has launched to strong reviews. Many platforming fans are testing the game out for themselves on PC and Xbox One, but may be discovering that its unforgiving difficulty is a little too much for them to handle. Luckily, there's a trick to make the game a bit easier for those that are having trouble conquering its stages.

To make Cuphead a somewhat easier experience when playing with an Xbox One controller, players need to customize their controls, swapping which button makes Cuphead and Mugman shoot. Instead of using the X button to shoot, it's better if players swap the shoot button to the right trigger, which should make it much easier to run, jump, and gun.

This may seem like a small change, but for some players, it will make a world of difference. Cuphead is an extremely challenging experience, and some players will need every advantage they can get if they hope to beat it. This simple button swap should make some boss fights less difficult, plus the Run and Gun platforming sections should be much easier as well.

Of course, even with this button swap, Cuphead will still put up quite the challenge. Even the most seasoned gamers may struggle to beat it, but luckily, there are other ways to make it a little easier. For example, players can collect coins in the Run and Gun levels as well as on the world map that can be spent in the shop to purchase buffs and new projectile types. If one is having a lot of trouble with a particular boss or level, these items could compensate for players' weaknesses.

Another way to make Cuphead easier is by playing the game in co-op. While some may need to wait for the possibility that online co-op will be added later on, those with a friend to play local co-op will find that having a partner essentially gives them extra lives. If a co-op partner takes too many hits, they become a ghost and start floating to the top of the screen. Players then have a certain amount of time to "parry" their partner's heart and revive them, which could make all the difference in the especially difficult levels.

While there is no denying that Cuphead is one of the most challenging games in recent memory, it's clear that there are a few ways to make the experience easier for anyone having trouble with it. Whether it's purchasing items at the shop, finding a friend to play co-op with, or by swapping the shoot button, players have options when it comes to making Cuphead a more accessible experience.

Cuphead is available now for PC and Xbox One.
