At the end of 2017, Cuphead brought its unique hand-drawn art style and difficult gameplay to PC and Xbox One owners. Since then, a port for macOS has extended the number of players with access to the title, and Nintendo is now looking to expand that playerbase even further with Cuphead's release on Switch.

As confirmed during today's Nindies Spring Showcase, a celebration of indie games that will release on Nintendo's newest console, Cuphead will release for Switch on April 18. For those that are excited to confirm their orders of the acclaimed run and gun game, it can now be pre-purchased through the Nintendo eShop for $19.99.

Furthermore, it has been confirmed that Xbox Live features will be brought to this new version of Cuphead, which means that Xbox Live achievements will be available to those playing the game on Switch. As indicated in a recent Xbox Wire post, these features will not be available immediately upon release — instead they will be implemented through a post-launch update set to occur in the "coming months."

The official announcement of the Cuphead Switch release date comes on the heels of several rumors about potential collaborations between Nintendo and Microsoft. Indeed, one aspect of these rumors suggests that a number of Microsoft games will release on Switch, which has obviously been confirmed today.

However, there is a further suggestion that Microsoft may be looking to bring an Xbox app to Nintendo's console, which would give players access to Microsoft's Game Pass subscription service on the Switch. While this is not yet confirmed, the focus on including Xbox Live features with the new Cuphead Switch port does seem to suggest that the two companies may have a larger plan in the works.

Regardless of what the future holds for a partnership between Nintendo and Microsoft, some players will certainly be happy to just be able to play Cuphead on the go. In Game Rant's Cuphead review we said the game "will truly stand the test of time," which makes this Switch version a great opportunity for old fans to jump back into the game and new ones to discover its challenges and charms.
