Although it launched two years ago, Cuphead continues to make headlines for Studio MDHR and Microsoft. Part of the success of the smash hit indie title is its availability, launching not just on the Xbox One, but making its way to the PC and Nintendo Switch as well. While the upcoming Delicious Last Course expansion was recently delayed into 2020, the franchise had another piece of big news to share with fans.

From Twitter, the official Studio MDHR account revealed that an animated version of its popular game is now in production as Netflix animation. Known as The Cuphead Show, the description from the post confirms that the show will star Cuphead and Mugman running around the Inkwell Isles using the same classic animation styles of the 1930s that the game was heavily inspired by. It's unknown if the show will follow the game exactly, though additional details on the TV show seem to imply that the animated comedy show will expand upon the characters and world seen in the game.

The Cuphead Show is a join collaboration between Studio MDHR, Netflix, and King Features Syndicate. The Moldenhauer brothers are acting as executive producers for Studio MDHR side, while C.J. Kettler, who also worked on the recent Carmen Sandiego Netflix series, will represent King Features. The new animated show also features Dave Wasson as executive producer, known for his work on the recent Mickey Mouse Shorts, as well as Cosmo Segurson of Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling fame.

Netflix is no stranger when it comes to games. The service has already put out content related to Castlevania which went on for two seasons with a third currently in the works. However, alongside Cuphead, Netflix has a plethora of game related shows in production including Ubisoft's The Division, which is confirmed to have notable stars attached like Jessica Chastain and Jake Gyllenhaal. Other gaming franchises like Resident Evil, Devil May Cry, and Final Fantasy 14 are also at various stages of production for Netflix, though many fans are anticipating the launch of The Witcher starring Henry Cavill expected to launch sometime later this year.

Cuphead is available now on PC, Switch and Xbox One.
