Cult of the Lamb is both a rogue-like and a building game, combining the fun of randomly generated dungeons and constructing a unique compound to house the Lamb's followers. Just like in real life, there must be a farm that can feed the cultists and keep them busy, and the complete process includes finding seeds, planting and cultivating crops, and building certain structures to aid in the process.

Farming is a central part of running a successful cult, and it's connected to other daily activities like feeding, clean-up, raising Faith and Devotion, and maximizing Divine Inspiration. Even when the followers are few at the beginning, farming is one of the first things the cult leader needs to organize.

Gathering Seeds

The very first step in starting a farm is to find and collect seeds from the Crusade runs. Once the Lamb has started with a few seeds, they can grow and cultivate their own, and as they become more powerful, new seeds and seed vendors will appear during their travels.

  • Food. Berries, pumpkins, and beetroot are just a few of the plants the Lamb can grow in their garden. Virtually all of these are available as dungeon drops or as retail items from friendly shopkeepers.
  • Other Plants. Mushrooms and camellia flowers are examples of plants that can't be used as food, but as construction materials, quest items, or currency, and are just as important to grow and collect.

Building The Farm

The very first buildings that players will need to construct are shelters and farm plots. Luckily, these are some of the most basic structures that require simple materials, such as Wood, Grass, and Coin. More complex structures will open up as the Lamb gains more Divine Inspiration, and higher-level materials such as Wooden Planks and Gold Bars are required for these structures.

Farm Buildings

  • Farm Plot. All that's needed is a few blades of grass and coins. Players will be prompted to seed the plot, water it, and fertilize it as long as some handy poop is available.
  • Compost Bin. Grass is a simple resource to find and collect, and the player can use the compost bin to turn it into fertilizer. That means the Lamb doesn't always have to rely on poop collected from the Outhouse or other parts of the cult compound.
  • Natural Burial. This building only unlocks with the Return to the Earth Doctrine which composts the dead bodies of followers so they can be used as fertilizer.
  • Fertilizer Silo. Store extra poop here after the Compost Bin is done, and members of the cult that are working on farm tasks can then use it on the crops.
  • Farmer Station. This is one of the most useful farm buildings because it allows the cultists to water the surrounding crops. Upgrade to a Farmer Station II, which also makes planting, cultivation, and fertilizing crops the cultists' responsibility, so the Lamb can rest their cloven hoofs.
  • Scarecrow. Birds will steal seeds and fledging plants unless they are deterred by a Scarecrow, and an upgrade to a Trap Scarecrow means that these birds can be caught and used for their meat.
  • Harvest Totem. As the name suggests, this structure speeds up plant growth. Upgrade to a Devotion Harvest Totem to also collect Devotion from nearby followers.
  • Seed Silo. Another handy structure that allows cultists to do more work, the Lamb fills this with seeds they find or buy during their Crusades, which cultists can then plant provided there's a Farm Station II nearby.

These are not strictly Farm buildings, but they are all connected directly to the Farm and depend on it in some way.

  • Outhouse. Not only essential to keep sanitary conditions in the compound under control but this building can also be used for fertilizer collection until the Compost Bin is unlocked.
  • Healing Bay. Essentially the cult's field hospital, the construction, and operation of the Healing Bay require the Camellia plant, which the Lamb should grow plenty of at the Farm.
  • Kitchen. One of the first structures that the player needs to build to keep their followers from starving. Being able to use resources from the Farm instead of collecting them while Crusading helps immensely.
  • Propaganda Speakers. These will improve the work ethic and Devotion of followers working nearby, so it makes sense to place a few near the Farm to maximize crop output.

Planting, Cultivation, And Harvest

Before the Lamb's followers can help with the farm work, the player will have to plant and water a few crops on their own. Harvesting also has to be done manually at this point, and unlike the Crusade, the Lamb won't have a weapon to speed up the process. Recipes appear in the Kitchen minigame as new ingredients are grown or discovered as opposed to being found as scrolls or separate items.

Cult of the Lamb is currently available on PC, macOS, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Switch.
