The game's cute art style featuring small animals engaging in gory combat brings to mind Happy Tree Friends, and gamers everywhere were drawn to the combination of roguelike dungeon crawling with base building and colony management. Players can build their own cult sanctuary with all sorts of buildings and populate it with a variety of customizable cultists, which is an excellent opportunity for DLC and content updates to expand upon.RELATED: Rumor: Sony Paid to Keep Cult of the lamb off Game PassIn celebration of a successful year, Cult of the Lamb has given players a look at what's in store along with some holiday season goodies. The game is currently hosting its biggest sale so far, and new penguin and lion follower forms are available via Twitch drops until January 5. As for the upcoming Cult of the Lamb update, one of the biggest additions is the new Heavy Attack mechanic. Holding the attack button will launch a heavy attack, which is unique to each weapon. The sword can knock back groups of enemies, the axe has a boomerang throw, and the dagger drops a rain of daggers from the sky.

Along with the added depth from heavy attacks, Cult of the Lamb's bosses will be getting some extra treatment. Although Massive Monster didn't get into specifics, the Barbatos boss was shown with some visual alterations and Massive Monster said that there will be many good reasons to rematch the bosses. The team has been working on several new features intended to improve the game's depth, difficulty, accessibility, and quality of life, and player feedback is being implemented. In the meantime, another round of fixes is scheduled for the start of the New Year ahead of the major update.

Cult of the Lamb is also a nominee for the Steam Awards under the Outstanding Visual Style category, and gamers can earn a special badge for their profile by voting for their favorite games in each of the 11 categories. Voting closes on January 3 and results will be announced that same day.

Cult of the Lamb is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
