Crytek is hiring, and it looks to be for a mysterious unknown title. According to a recent job posting, Crytek is looking for someone to work in its Frankfurt, Germany based studio on an unannounced AAA project. This person would have a rather major role as The Game Director and Lead Game Designer.

Along with being wanting someone who has multiple years of experience in game design and has shipped 1+ video games (preferably an FPS), Crytek is looking for someone who has "sandbox" game experience, which leans more towards exploration and freedom. The first-person shooter genre could use more sandbox video games, so it would be interesting if Crytek wanted to take another shot at it.

Of course, what this game is is all speculation at this point. There are times when a job posting is listing for a specific video game and it is obvious, like Retro Studios and its Metroid Prime 4 job openings last month. Other times, the lack of specificity leads room for imagination, and that is the case with this Crytek job posting. The unannounced nature of this position means one must guess, but there are also some hints based on previous leaks and or the small species of information on the listing itself.

Earlier this year, there were some very intriguing Crytek-based leaks. These including Crysis Next (A Crysis battle royale), Crysis-VR, and more Crysis Remaster projects. The legitimacy of this information has not yet been confirmed, but it is possible that the "unannounced AAA project" that the Crytek posting is referring to is something along with these lines, including something like a sandbox Crysis battle royale.

The leak also pointed to a new Ryse game being in the works, a launch Xbox One title that many players enjoyed. That game would be something that many would be happy with, however, it doesn't align with the job posting necessarily, given the emphasis on FPS.

There is also a huge focus on the ongoing development of Hunt: Showdown, Crytek's online multiplayer PVP, and PVE horror-based team-oriented shooter. That game of course is alive and doing well, although rumors do point to a possible mobile version at some point.

There are quite a few possibilities as to what this listing could be, from a remaster of a classic Crysis game to something else entirely new. Crytek has had a few solid games over the last couple of years, but it could deliver a surprise game hit and remind fans that it is one of the great developers with a massive title, if it adds a few more talented members and puts forth a special game.
