When the remastered version of Crysis released, it wasn't met with the kind of reception the game got when it released for the very first time so many years ago. Part of the issue is that, while Crysis was a gamechanger back in the day, there are quite a few games that do things very similar, if not better than what it does. However, that doesn't mean Crytek's game has to be left in the dustbin of history. There's another way in which the series could be rejuvenated. There may not be a game out there right now that would be better served to receive its own battle royale version.

Crytek seems to agree that a Crysis battle royale game is worth a look, based on footage of such a game leaking online not that long ago. The big question now is just how far into development that was, and whether the developers are still looking to pursue it. Should Crytek indeed be pursuing a Crysis battle royale project, it seems like it would make sense. This particular franchise is one of those that could end up birthing a battle royale game with features many others don't possess.

Crysis Has Built-In Lore

One way Crysis has a leg up on some of the other battle royale games on the market is that it doesn't have to create its story from whole cloth. In contrast, Fortnite's lore had to be carefully laid out in cutscenes and little clues on the map when it first launched. With a backstory already laid out from the original trilogy, Crysis might not have the uphill battle to make a dent in the market other battle royale games have had in the past.

If the footage of the Crysis battle royale can be taken at face value, it appears the developers are certainly leaning into the franchise's lore. There is of course the tropical island locale that the series is well known for, especially the first chapter. There's also the high-tech armored warriors that are at the center of the franchise's story.

Weapons And Gear Abound

While the story and lore of Crysis can help the game stand out from other battle royale games, that's not the sole reason this would be such a great entry in that genre. One of the reasons Fortnite is so popular is because of its many weapons. A game built on the groundwork that Crytek already laid has plenty of built-in arms for use in a battle royale format. There's plenty of different guns and other weapons tied to the lore of Crysis. There is also the added bonus of the power armor central to the franchise, which could lead to unique gameplay opportunities in the battle royale genre.

It's not hard to imagine the armor and weapons already tied to the series being used in creative ways in an upcoming Crysis battle royale. Whether talking about skins that will allow players to wear different power armors, or the ability to level up if someone plays more, there are quite a few possibilities. Choosing different factions or armies to play as, open up even more possibilities. The hope now is that the leaked footage really is pointing to a game that is in development and might launch in the not-too-distant future.
