Electronic Arts has been very busy in recent weeks, announcing the imminent release of demos for various upcoming titles such as Bulletstorm. Now eager fans of Crysis 2 will be able to throw themselves into a fully featured demo of the game’s multiplayer component. Sadly for PlayStation 3 and PC owners, the demo of Crytek’s masterpiece will be coming exclusively to Microsoft’s Xbox 360.
Arriving on January 25, 2011, the demo will be made available via the Xbox Live marketplace to Gold members, giving Xbox 360 gamers almost two months of action before the game’s release. This slice of multiplayer will come complete with two game modes, as well as one complete level of the multiplayer experience.
Team Instant Action will pit opposing teams against each other in traditional Red vs Blue style. The more kills a team achieves, the closer they move to ultimate victory, with ranks being awarded at the matches conclusion.
Anyone looking for a more unique experience will find it in the form of Crash Site. This mode sees players charged with protecting their pods from advancing players at all cost, being scored if they can achieve this aim.
Developed by Crytek UK (Formerly Free Radical) the multiplayer component has been specifically designed to engage the player, according to Crytek executive producer Nathan Camarillo. He told CVG that the multiplayer component is a key part of the Crytek 2 experience, and praised the variety within the multiplayer.
“It’s different from other FPS games in that you are this ultimate super solider that has the ability to cloak at any point in time, so it’s different than modern military shooters, it’s different to Halo….. You have the manoeuvrability, you’re in an urban environment, you can jump, you can slide, you can climb. There’s so much you can do in that first-person experience that the other multiplayer games don’t offer.”
When released, Crysis 2 multiplayer will contain six gameplay modes and 12 maps, all set in memorable locations throughout New York City. With up to 50 ranks to reach and a variety of weapon additions to unlock, there will be a wide selection of things to chase when the game hits the shelves. If you need convincing of just how exciting the multiplayer is going to be, check out the trailer below.
Crysis 2 is the sequel to the PC pin-up Crysis. Released in 2007, the game boasted cutting edge graphics which became infamous in gaming circles thanks to it’s ability to reduce high end PC rigs to quivering wrecks. I myself was never able to get the game working above medium settings. Thankfully, owners of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 systems won’t have to worry about spending time in the options, as the game has already been optimized for each console.
Are you looking forward to Crysis 2? Will you be downloading the demo when it’s released?
Crysis 2 will be available on PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 on March 22, 2011, in North America and March 25, 2011, in Europe.
