Looking pretty in videogames is a high priority. Nobody wants to play a dull looking game and Crysis 2 is far from being a dull looking game. However, there are those who have gone on record as saying the PlayStation 3 version of the game is inferior looking – in comparison to the PC and even the 360 version.
The demo is available now for PS3 users, so anyone who wants to have a look for themselves can do so and reach their own conclusion. There’s also a video of PS3 gameplay in case a visual aid was also required for comparison.
What kind of complaints are being levied against the PS3 version? Sub-par graphics that aren’t true HD, hit detection issues, framerate drops, HUD bobbling, and a broken melee system among other things. The complaints aren’t uncommon from what I, personally, experienced when I played an alpha build of Crysis 2. It seems the problem could be that the PS3 demo hasn’t been completely optimized – compared to the other versions of the demo. However, gameplay issues in a demo aren’t an uncommon thing. As for the HUD bobbling, that’s part of the actual gameplay to create the atmosphere that the player is inside the Nanosuit. Regardless, the final release is coming up soon – so the timing for the complaints isn’t very good.
CVG reported their findings on the PS3 build of the game and, aside from minor graphical complaints, have found Sony’s version is on par with the PC and Xbox 360. Executive producer, Nathan Camarillo has also gone on record and challenged individuals to put the PS3 and Xbox 360 version side by side and search for large disparities. In our own interview, Camarillo stated that bringing Crysis 2 to consoles was a top priority for the sequel, so having one version lacking wouldn’t be in agreement with that statement, either.
With CryENGINE 3 optimized to adapt the gameplay and graphic resources to the hardware available, it would seem like the PS3 demo is just a fluke and will not reflect on the final retail copy of the game. The only way to really be sure is to play it on the PS3 when it comes out. Will these allegations make you hesitant to purchase your copy of Crysis 2 on PlayStation 3?
Crysis 2 will be releasing on March 22, 2011 for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
