Fans of the Crysis franchise were understandably excited yesterday when the game's Twitter account made its first post in four years. This tweet was short and sweet, simply stating "RECEIVING DATA" in all caps and with no images, but it hinted that big things were coming for the franchise which had been silent for so long.

Now, the following day, another tweet has been posted to the Crysis Twitter account, this time with a little more substantial information. Though the tweet was still just a single sentence, it calls out a character, Nomad, by name, hinting at the possibility of a remake of the first game in the series.

If the Crysis Twitter account keeps up this pattern, then fans may be able to expect another snippet of information tomorrow which will further clear up the mystery surrounding the sudden resurgence. One thing is for sure though, the marketing strategy is working because fans are fully engaged.

Nomad is the main protagonist of the first Crysis game which follows his exploits. He is a member of Raptor Team, the group sent to the Lingshan islands in order to deal with a North Korean threat. While the tasks are initially more reconnaissance based, they swiftly evolve into more head on conflict as the United States military decides to get involved and call on Nomad and his team to help with the war effort. He is able to be useful in this capacity due to his use of the nanosuit which greatly enhances his physical and mental capabilities.

Although Nomad was the protagonist in the first Crysis game, he does not appear in Crysis 2 or Crysis 3. This is because following the events of the first game, a comic book series fills in the gaps between the first and second game. By the end of this six part comic book series, Nomad sacrifices himself to save a comrade and is believed to be dead. Because of this, the newest tweet holds two possibilities. Given that Nomad is supposedly dead, the direct reference to the character indicates that a remaster or remake of the first Crysis may in fact be in the works.

That said, it is also possible that the tease is pointing towards Crysis 4, and perhaps it will be revealed that Nomad is in fact alive. This seems unlikely due to the severity of his fatal wound and his complete lack of presence in either of the sequels, but it is always a possibility.

Crysis is available now for PC, PS3, and Xbox 360.
