Without a doubt, Crunchyroll is the largest anime streaming service out there and is one of the most subscribed to streaming services across all mediums as well. However, last week Crunchyroll formally announced price reductions across 100 countries and territories, which will all be listed below.

Crunchyroll is a multimedia company that streams anime and manga to international audiences. There is a free-with-ads tier, and multiple premium features each with its own unique perks. The service also has a yearly fan-voted award show, and anime-related news, and has become a mobile game developer in recent years. Last anime season was when Crunchyroll officially ended their free-with-ads for all currently airing anime, so it can be assumed this is meant to make up for the sudden stop. However, it should be noted that any anime previously free with ad viewing will remain that way from the time being.

All The Countries Included In The Price Change

Only a few countries were announced with official price changes, which Crunchyroll called "highlights of what fans around the world can expect". Included in the highlights were the countries and territories of the United Kingdom, in which the Mega Fan tier will change from 7.99 to 5.99 GBP. A few of the other countries included were India, where the Mega Fan tier will change from 9.99 USD to 99 Indian Rupees, in Brazil, where the Mega Fan tier will change from 32.00 to 19.99 Brazilian Real, and in the United Arab Emirates, where Mega Fan will change from 9.99 USD to 19 United Arab Emirates Dirham.

With these price changes, Crunchyroll aims to become more accessible internationally. Lowering prices could increase the number of anime watchers subscribed to Crunchyroll, and especially since the merger with Funimation, could make the entirety of mainstream both subbed and dubbed anime more affordable for international fans.

This isn't the first time Crunchyroll has changed it's pricing tiers, however. In 2019, they announced their first price increase since the launch of the streaming platform, raising it from $6.95 to $7.99 for a premium membership subscription in the United States, Great Britain, Australia, the Nordics, and other international audiences that paid in USD.

More recently in 2020, Crunchyroll announced separate membership tiers to replace the singular premium membership. The tiers from smallest to largest are Fan, Mega Fan, and Ultimate Fan. The Fan tier cost the same as the 2019 price for a premium subscription at $7.99 and operates exactly the same as its predecessor. The two new tiers were 9.99 for Mega Fan, which includes a 15% off coupon for the Crunchyroll Store for purchases over $100 quarterly, and Ultimate Fan, which has a 25% off coupon for orders over $100 from Crunchyroll's store, which is also offered to Ultimate Fans quarterly.

Although Crunchyroll has changed its prices before, this is the first major price reduction since the streaming service's launch in 2006. Crunchyroll has sure come a long way since then, now boasting its own merch store, V-tuber persona Crunchyroll-hime, and has become one of the most subscribed streaming services across all mediums. Crunchyroll promises to announce more countries soon regarding the price reduction, and news regarding Sony's acquisition as time continues.
