Spanish game publisher Meridiem Games has announced that its upcoming Eastern action/adventure game, The Crown of Wu, will receive a special edition physical release. Although the release of the digital version of the game had already been confirmed, this is the first confirmation given with regard to a physical counterpart.

The Crown of Wu is an upcoming title inspired by the classic Eastern folklore tale Journey To The West. The game is being developed by Red Mountain game studios and will allow players to take control of the titular Wu, a half-monkey, half-human, who gains supernatural powers through a mysterious crown. Players will be taken on an epic adventure that sees Wu attempt to retrieve his crown after it is taken by a malevolent being. Gameplay will consist of action/adventure elements, along with some puzzle-solving.

Meridiem states that The Crown of Wu Special Boxed Legend Edition will drop on March 24, 2023, the same date on which the digital edition of the game will release. The title will be available on PC, Xbox, and PlayStation in its digital form, and the store pages are now live for the game, meaning that excited players can wishlist the title right now. However, interestingly it is only the PlayStation 5 version of the special boxed Legend Edition of The Crown of Wu that has been mentioned so far, with no mention of the other platforms.

It also sounds as though this Legend Edition of the game will be fairly rare, with only European specialist stores being confirmed to stock the game thus far. Gaming collectors will likely want to keep an eye out to find out which stores plan on getting the game on. An announcement trailer for The Crown of Wu is available to watch online and should give players an idea of what to expect from this title. Not only that, but a demo for the game is also currently available to download both on Steam and the PS Store.

The concept art which can be seen on the website for the game is stunning, and the art style that the team is seemingly striving for looks dynamic and engaging. The idea of a creative team pulling from influences such as Chinese mythology and blending that classic aesthetic with modern-day game design is a fascinating one. Confirmation that the player will be given air, fire, earth, and lightning powers to play around with and use in order to dispatch enemies is also exciting. All of this, in combination with the other previously announced gameplay elements such as Parkour-style traversal and puzzle solving, make The Crown of Wu an upcoming title that could be worth keeping an eye out for.

The Crown of Wu is out on March 24 for PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
