The Nintendo Switch is making quite the home for indie titles, with games like Stardew Valley eyeing physical releases on the console. The latest to receive a physical release on the Switch is the Action RPG CrossCode.

CrossCode takes its inspiration from RPGs from the SNES era, emulating classics like Secret of Mana with its action-oriented approach to battle, but modernizing them for current sensibilities. The story follows Lea, a girl who has lost her memories, and in order to retrieve those memories must play an MMORPG called "CrossWorlds." The game within a game construct is a fairly popular anime trope, but is a bit more rare in video games.

CrossCode received praise when it first released to Steam in 2018, and is receiving a second wave of accolades for its console release this month. On top of that, the game is being given a physical release on Switch, PC, and PS4. The SteelBook Edition features an instruction card, manual, reversible cover, and obviously a steelbook to house it. The Collector's Edition includes these items plus a hardcover box, 2-disc soundtrack, the "CrossCode Compendium" book, stickers, poster, and a keychain.

The physical release, provided by Strictly Limited Games, is a nice way to celebrate and build excitement for an indie game that otherwise might struggle to find the spotlight.

Nintendo is doing what it can to promote indie titles with its Indie Showcase events, where games like the upcoming Axiom Verge 2 get a chance to shine. CrossCode is just the latest to get a push, and it is certainly a game worthy of that attention.

CrossCode is available now for PS4, Steam, Switch, and Xbox One with physical editions up for pre-order now.
