The early parts of Cris Tales are fairly easy, as they focus on setting up the story and world, as well as teaching players the basics of combat. Things get ramped up to eleven for the first boss fight against the Volcano Sisters, however, and many players find themselves stuck against these two powerhouses. Each holds one half of a massive shield, and when the shields are pressed together, it's impossible for the player to break through and deal any damage. Without the right strategy, players won't stand a chance against these two, but there is a way they can be beaten.

While Cris Tales looks a lot like any other turn based RPG, its claim to fame is the player's ability to manipulate time. At any given moment, players can see the past, present, and future of the area around the player. This unique ability extends into combat as well, allowing the player to send enemies forwards or backwards in time. This ability will be crucial if players want to defeat the Volcano Sisters.

It shouldn't take long to realize that it won't be possible to brute force through this fight, so players will need to think outside the box. In order to negate the benefits of the Volcano Sisters' shield, players need to use a combination of their elemental and time magic to make it rust. Attack the shield with any water attack and then send the sisters forwards in time and the shield will be rusted and useless. Now players will be able to deal real damage to the Volcano Sisters.

How to beat Volcano Sisters

Of course, that doesn't mean it will be an easy fight. The Volcano Sisters are still capable of dealing very heavy damage to the player, especially when they start using their four-hit combo. To avoid this damage, players should remember to press the confirm button again right before an enemy's attack connects. This is Cris Tales' version of a parry, and it reduces the damage received significantly. The same thing applies to outgoing attacks as well, since timing this right will allow the player to land critical hits that deal more damage.

This fight will take a while, but if players are patient and they can get the timing down, they should be able to win without much of a problem. If the fight is still proving to be too tough for whatever reason, it never hurts to return to some previous areas and power up in Cris Tales by grinding for a bit.

Cris Tales is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
