Konami owns some of the biggest classic video game series in the industry. With massive titles like Silent HillMetal Gear Solid, and Castlevania all under its wings, there are a lot of Konami titles that fans hope will be announced.

However, many of the franchises that Konami has built fanbases of have not received new titles in years. Fans of series like Silent Hill have been eagerly waiting for a new entry ever since Silent Hills was canceled years ago. Because of this, many Konami fans were surprised to find the company announcing an entirely new title named CrimeSight out of the blue.

The game is something nobody guessed Konami was making. A competitive mystery game, CrimeSight takes place in London during the year 2075 when new technology has been developed that can accurately predict future crimes. Once the system predicts a crime that could very well lead to the end of the world, an AI named Sherlock is developed with the sole purpose of stopping it. The game revolves around two players competing with a set of avatar characters at a location. While one player tries to arrange a murder, the other player has to either prevent it for long enough that help can arrive, or deduce which avatar has been designated as the killer.

The announcement also came with an announcement trailer that gives a glimpse at what CrimeSight's gameplay looks like. CrimeSight is inspired by tabletop games and sees competing players taking control of the avatar characters and using them to explore the environment. While one player uses them to set up the conditions required for the murder, the other player uses them to try and find clues or piece together what avatar the other player is using for the murder. For any players who are interested, CrimeSight is accepting sign-ups for its closed beta until July 10.

While CrimeSight is definitely not what Konami fans were expecting from the studio, it does seem to be an interesting departure from the studio's usual ventures and could be an interesting spin on competitive gaming. The company has been silent about its in-progress works until now, but Konami did confirm that it is working on key projects at the end of April. Hopefully, those projects are new entries in the company's largest franchises that fans have been waiting for, and hopefully, it will be ready to show more about them sometime soon.

CrimeSight is in development for PC.
