When people think about Silent Hill, the word "creepy" tends to come to mind for many players. Certainly, the first generation of SH games are notable for being able to make the player shudder and their skin crawl. While Silent Hill 2 is considered the best game in the series, the third game still definitely has its unsettling moments. In fact, one moddder was able to recreate a particularly creepy moment from SH3, but give it a bit of a visual polish.

Posting to the PS4 subreddit yesterday, one user uploaded an image showing a creepy room filled with headless mannequins. The unnerving image is a recreation of a scene from Silent Hill 3. Except, rather than just being a screenshot from the original game, this one was done in the Far Cry 5 engine. The ghoulish pose of the mannequins combined with the eerie lighting give the screenshot that element of creepiness, not that SH3 needed to up the creep factor.

As well as an image, the user also uploaded a short video showing how they made the map. In the video, they show the room being built in the map editor, while a small screen grab from Silent Hill 3, showing Heather in the mannequin room in the original, is placed in the corner as a reference point. Despite the modder saying they haven't made the map public, one commenter in the Reddit thread jokingly voiced their concern that Ubisoft could remove the map, similar to when the company pulled the fan made Goldeneye levels that were made in Far Cry 5.

Despite the threat of a Ubisoft takedown, it doesn't seem to deter people from recreating elements from other games in Far Cry 5, which uses the Dunia Engine. For example, recently, one fan recreated an exact replica of Breezehome from Skyrim. It's obviously not got the same creepy vibe as the mannequin room from Silent Hill 3, but it shows just what can be done in this particular engine.

The original Silent Hill titles are an important contribution to horror gaming. While the world waits to hear whether Blue Box's upcoming Abandoned will actually be a new Silent Hill game, fans seem more than happy to return to the classics and breathe a new bit of life into them by recreating elements of them in newer engines. If there isn't a new game on the horizon, at least people like the above Reddit user can still remind others just how unsettling a game nearly eighteen years old can be.

Silent Hill 3 is out now for PS2 and PC.
